Just re-watched Cotto vs Margarito

I think that's exactly what it is. Margo's tending to the seeds of doubt he's already planted in Miguel's head by taking those wicked shots without flinching in the first fight to try and assure himself of an edge in the second. Nothing's more disheartening than hitting a guy with everything, including the kitchen sink, only to have him keep coming forward like he's the Terminator. Cotto already had to have been second guessing himself as it was happening; Margo keeping up the act and saying things like that won't make it any easier come rematch time.

My guess is that Tony wouldn't risk being 100% honest now if it costs him that edge in the rematch. I'd take anything he said about it with a grain of salt until after the final chapter of the Cotto-Margarito book's been written.

 

I think body shots would make a difference and Cotto would have to try to go to the body more effectively in a rematch. We've all seen Cotto break guys down that way. That being said, Margarito is a beast so maybe he walks through those as well

 

I think I read somewhere that Cotto said he couldn't get to the body the way Margarito was fighting.

 

He did. If you watch the fight Margarito kept his arms and elbows tucked in nice and tight, while Cotto was looking for a spot. Hence the numerous times he squatted down and ate uppercuts. He was looking for his spots, but didn't find any and paid for looking by taking uppercuts. So he seldomly tried doing so. And everytime he did, he ate those uppercuts.

It was difficult to watch, but I suspect in the rematch there will be less movement and a better gameplan for the body attack...with several back up plans...

This fight fascinates me. Cotto is, in my opinion, a more talented fighter than Margarito, and on top of that he fought a brilliant fight. The best one he could fight, really, and he still lost. Good fight plan. Executed really well.

I picked Margarito to win this fight and was getting damn worried half way through, It looked like cotto was about to Williams him.
