Jones, Tarver (movie) and now Bird...

that punishment he took from those heavy weights came back to haunt him especially since he ate his way to hw instead of training and gradually getting bigger he should of consulted a nutrionist and a real athletic trainer alot of people think having a real athletic trainer is useless in boxing but as you can see guys ruin themselves all the time by not properly cutting weight extreme diets cutting to many calories and basically just removing to much of the body's natural strenght chris byrd dropped 30 or more pounds in less than 4 months that's alot considering lhw tend to still have devastating power or the combination of extreme speed and power. and are generally better conditioned than hw so he was playing with fire he should have waited a year to enter the weight . it possible he left everything in the gym as well sparring with uss cunningham

Did he do anything noteworthy at all? Or was it a major ass-kicking start-to-finish?

I guess these recent failures speak volumes to what Fitzsimmons accomplished at the turn of the last century.

Agree somewhat but jones and tarver never looked anywhere near as bad as byrd. Byrds training camp should have known that he was shot I could tell in the prevideo training his punches were just taps on the heavybag.

Much as I hate Byrd's defensive style, I actually felt sorry for him Friday night. To get his ass kicked so decisively by a mediocre light heavy, after being a champion and so competitive at HEAVYWEIGHT, for goodness sake!

Fernado Vargas is a good example of that too.

Wow. Even though I guess this shouldn't be too surprising, I am still shocked!
