Cotto might not be the guy we were used to seeing but i doubt he is shot yes the yuri foreman fight doesnt say much (even though SO MANY people were saying Foreman would kill Cotto and after the fight he was a bum) but Cotto would put up a way better fight than Pirog.

I doubt it would be at middleweight it would definitely have to be at 154

I also read the same thing at endi.com

    Cotto is requesting Martinez.

We have to remember; Cotto is used to fighting 3 times per year; he had to get that surgery and that set him back.

He wants to fight the best; but Arum is saving him for Pacman... or Margarito.... which sucks really.

Cotto wants Martinez.. i say give him Martinez!

PS: Dan Rafael also mentioned this on espn, Cotto vs. Martinez @ 155 for the Middleweight Tittle

Dude, this guy stepped up to middleweight to own Kelly Pavlik inbetween fighting 'the most avoided' Paul Williams twice and now Cotto wants to fight him he's a joke? It's not like he's fighting Gary Lockett and Marco Antonio Rubio here.

Your right he shouldnt have low blowed Zab on purpose in the 1st round. But his jab is pretty decent and he has great timing with it. Should be interesting seeing him against Martinez if the fight happens. Never use to like Cotto but he earned my respect by taking on Margarito and taking absurd punishment.. his face looked awful

Martinez could make good many, and not destroy his credibility, by fighting Bute in Montreal. If Martinez is the "bad ass" his fans claim he is, why won't he take that fight?

HBO would be more than happy to pay good money for a Martinez/Pirog unification. Why won't Martinez take that fight?

no disrespect man but Cotto-Martinez is an interesting fight. You seem to hate Martinez a lot and since before the Pavlik fight you have been saying he sucks.

Besides he did say he would take a fight with Bute but Bute just signed a deal with showtime and Martinez is loyal to HBO now.

Martinez has just moved up to Middleweight from Jnr Middleweight and you want him to jump up again?

Why don't you just grow up.

I personally don't give a **** about weight classes. I just want to see good fighters fight other good fighters.

If they meet somewhere in between two weight classes I am fine with that. Do what ever you have to do to make it fair and entertaining.

    Cotto is the man.

That's a fight that's been kicked around I believe but I think it would be a dumb fight for Martinez to take. I don't even see him as a true middleweight, he only rehydrates up to 167-168. He wants big money fights but there's not a lot of big money fights out there for him (outside of Cotto/Margarito). Pavlik won't be fighting for a while and turned down the rematch clause, Margarito II can't happen for a while as he recovers, he already did Williams II. He could do Pirog for short money. He could fight Bute and get his ass kicked for a lot of money. He could fight Angulo for more visibility. I don't know how maybe a fight with Lemieux would sell in Canada, but you would probably consider him too green.

So who would you like to see him face outside of Bute knowing that Martinez would want big money?

Of course, this is just a question of curiosity.

Martinez beat PDub, who by his own admission is a welterweight. Martinez beat a drunken Kelly Pavlik who was released from the Betty Ford Center 10 days before the fight, but kept right on drinking. What exactly did Martinez do that means he "deserves" to beat up Cotto just because it would pay good?

Pdub, being the biggest welter weight alive currently has fought up to 159 and has a win over Martinez at around that weight in the rematch he obviously KO'd Williams cold. Williams best weight is 147 no doubt, he's bigger than everybody there by quite a bit but that doesn't mean he's not a viable opponent. Also, Williams was also, rightly or wrongly, ranked as a top 3-5 pound for pound fighter by most. This is also of course without even mentioning that a BIG reason why he wants to be considered a welterweight is because that's where the big $$$$ is and he wanted a shot at it and that PW hasn't fought at the welterweight limit since June 2008. Finally, the Martinez-Williams fight was the 2nd highest viewed HBO bout of the year if I remember correctly.

Furthermore, if you're against that fight why would you back Pavlik who as you've mentioned before is a large middleweight fighting Williams? Is it because he would make the most money at the time in a weak middleweight division?

That's straying from the topic. Once again, who would you have him fight outside of Bute? I know you mentioned Pirog, but Pirog has 17 fights under his belt, by your definition wouldn't that mean he's too green? Maybe he can take on Sturm?

My respect for Cotto is already extremely high. If he takes this fight for a middleweight title (at 155), it'll rise even more.
