I like the idea of Mundine dropping to Middleweight. Fight Winky, then maybe a title fight against Sturm. Then a mega fight in 2009 with Oscar :hey
I doubt whether he'd get a fight v Oscar but there's always a good welter/super welter looking to become multi division champions by taking on the middleweights like Tito and Co.
Not much doing at 168 really, a lot of new champs and more to come if the Zaghe vacates, and he even if he doesnt he wont be fighting Choc I imagine. Not a bad idea really if he can make the weight. No way Pavlik bothers with him but if he could get a fight with Sturm and win, then an Abraham fights seems possible. I think he molests Sturm and though I rate Abe, I think Choc's style with give him hell.
Why doesn't Pavlik bother with him? Who's Pavlik fighting next? Gary Lockett who hasn't done much to date against top ranked fighters. It's not like Pavlik has a history of fighting great fighters. He went in against Taylor as an underdog challenger and while he was undefeated coming off the back of an impressive win v Miranda, he wasn't expected to defeat Taylor all the same. Next up he beat up and tormented the same guy who had barely recovered from the last fight and nightmares that followed.... So I ask, now that Pavlik has established himself as an ATG by beating Miranda and Taylor x 2, who is worthy to fight King Pavlik? Should Mundine impress in his first fight in the US (or Sturm) then his stocks rise and he becomes worthy.
I think Mundine should go down to MW......he was 73kg's a few days before his last fight without diet...he will only need to get rid of a few extra kilos and he is in. Better he leaves SMW because another fight with Kess will see the same result....Mundine just lacks the work rate required.
winky is a greedy greedy man, if he turns down a fight with oscar for millions in 05 cause he wanted more, i doubt he fights mundine in 08 for peanuts. unfortunately.
Very true. As with most of today's aged champions it's the cash not titles they're after. Difference now is that Winky isn't seen as the biggest fish in the pond anymore. He still has pulling power but doesn't have as much to put on the table in return for the big dollars.
Mundine fought at 168 for 8 years, then drops to 160. Unusual career really, most fighters go the other way. But if Mundine can fight at 160 he should do well. His speed will carry over and given a bit more size advantage will be pretty deadly. Mundine still has another 11 or so years left in boxing, so there is plenty of time.
Your a sarcy **** arent ya? You got to get real mate, Pavlik is a popular fighter in the U.S, his last 4 or 5 fights have been on HBO. I said nothing about his all time greatness nor do I revere him as a King but it is clear you see your favourite action hero, the Black Superman, in such a light. Lockett is a mandatory and not a good one I admit. But this is a fight for Pavlik to look good in after looking average in Taylor II. Lets face it Mundine isnt a name in the U.S and would not be a fighter Pavlik would look good against. Pavlik is looking at guys like Wright, De La Hoya, Abraham, Duddy, Calzaghe et al. He has said so, his people have said so and some of those fighters have also said so. Those are names in the U.S, those are money fights. Choc, on the other hand, hasnt even fought once at middleweight and isnt even a real champ. Honestly as it stands I would give Mundine a big chance of beating Pavlik. If he looks the goods at middle still, then that might change into an all out pick. But this is not about that, its about whether or not Anthony Mundine is or will be anywhere on Kelly Pavlik's radar and I say profoundly no.
Let's take a look at the guys you just mentioned. Dela Hoya: How many fights has he got left? Is making big money as a promoter and should he lose his next fight it's unlikely he'd want to take on a banger like Pavlik at middleweight. Duddy: The way this guy got cut open last time would make it difficult to sell as a challenge. He was exposed as levels below champion standard. Abraham: If their management can come to terms it could happen. The guy can fight but he has never fought in the US and this makes it difficult to sell and bring in the big bucks. Will Pavlik fight in Germany? Calzaghe: Considering that Pavlik's people have said they have no plans at moving away from middleweight..... Wright: The only one in this list that could realisticly fight Pavlik in the foreseeable future, but again negotiations would be difficult. Now back to Mundine, yes, currently he has little to offer and virtually no pulling power when it comes to a fight v Pavlik, who I recognise has a huge following in the US and has become one of the most in demand fighters in the game. This is why there's a plan in place to rectify this situation. First phase fight Soliman (known in US through Contender since their last fight) Second phase fight in the USA (someone with credibility) Third phase American Idol (sing rap song with Roy Jones Jr)..... Seriously, if he can secure either a decent fight in the US or a title fight before the end of the year then surely it would change the situation. It's not like anyone's talking about it happening tomorrow.
How has anything I've posted nuthuggery? If you can manage to twist your head into a painfully objective position you may realise that what I've posted is nothing more than simple logic. If you look through anything I've posted regarding Mundine you'll notice that not once have I suggested that he is this or that. I rarely impose my opinion on his abilities or what he may or may not achieve. In fact more often than not I find myself replying to speculation that has as much credibility as George.W.Bush, posts that are nothing more than a fabrication created by persons that write the fairytales to suit their own agenda. The end result is usually similar to your post Muttley. :nono
