Gatti was clearly past his best but he still had enough left to be on a decent win streak going into the Mayweather match.

Gatti was a good fighter at his best but even then he was never near Mayweather's level so it wouldn't have mattered when they fought he could have never beat Mayweather.

The fight against Gatti was about building Mayweather's profile it was never seen as one of his better wins.

He was only ranked below Tszyu at the weight when they fought - coming off 3 wins against 2 of which were against fairly solid opposition. He was never brilliant and the way he was beat up by Mayweather would have happened at any point of his career, but I don't think it's fair to say he was totally done at that point, however, I don't think anyone holds a candle to the win over Gatti as anything special anyway - it was just a masterful beating he gave him.

    "Just realized"?

You mean "went looking for ways to nitpick with a prefab conclusion to support my extremely biased agenda"?

    Gotcha.

Gannicus is a decent poster whenever NOT discussing Pacquiao or Mayweather; a terrible one anytime he is.

Guess what? Paz was no less past his prime (and roughly an equivalent fighter in the first place) when Jones put a similar whipping on him but nobody feels the need to harp on it.

Was Paz in as many wars as Gatti or beaten by the type of fighters Gatti was beaten by?

HOF is about ability in the ring, and an element of popularity. Gatti doesn't have the ability, but had one of the very GOAT fighting spirits. His matches are unforgettable. Gatti is boxing.
That's why I believe he deserves HOF.

Gatti held a major title and made successful defenses of those titles in multiple weight classes.

He spent close to 10 years being rated in the top 10, sometimes being #1 or #2, across 3-4 weight classes.

He was seen as being good enough that him losing was voted upset of the year.

Not saying Gatti was a great fighter and you can make a good argument that he's not HOF worthy but C and D level fighters don't accomplish all those things Gatti did.
