that aside...PBF @ 130, prime, was one of the very best ever H2H. Arguably top 10.

The resume..no way near as good.

The difference is that no one is calling RJJ GOAT, some people are calling Floyd GOAT.
RJJ had monsters around him but the only monster he fought was Toney. Mayweather is greater than RJJ, although not as good....no one is as good as RJJ.
Paz-RJJ was a pantomime act lol.

The smart way to build your profile as a fighter is to fight names past their prime. So that you can get credit for beating a great fighter and they can't win because they're shot. For the non thinking fan and the fanboys they don't care, know or just choose to ignore the condition of the opponent.

To them the name is the name.

I've seen so many Mayweather fans go on and on about the Gatti performance. First of all Gatti was a C level fighter. Second he was shot to piece. But to them the Gatti fight an ATG performance.

    What a joke.

Not really. He's usually spot on. He always recognizes Mayweather's H2H abilities. Especially at the lower weights. He gives him credit for fighting JLC when JLC was actually really good. He is a staunch critic of Mayweather's in ring endeavors above 135 pounds. Which he has a right to be considering Mayweather schemed at 140 pounds and up, typically ducking the best or fighting names after they were no longer what they once were. Heaping credit towards Mayweather for outclassing a shot Gatti. I'm glad we have somebody who so easily sees through BS like that.

As for Pacquiao he's typically spot on as well. He recognizes Pacquiao for what he was. The greatest fighter of the last 30 years (since Duran and Leonard). A blown up featherweight with somewhat suspect H2H ability, but somebody who fought the best anytime, anywhere and usually won the fight. In often times exciting fashion as well.

At least that's my ****ysis of his opinions of Mayweather and Pacquiao. Based on reading his posts. I enjoy his posts. They're usually pretty solid.

He lost to Mayweather and DeLa Hoya but those are 2 of the best fighters of Gatti's time, not too mention he was too small for Oscar and too old for Mayweather. He's obviously not on that level.

The losses to Baldomir and Gomez were at the end of Gatti's career when he was pretty much done I wouldn't hold those against him.

So he ends up with losses against guys like Ward, Robinson, and Manfredy while he also beat guys like Ward, Dorin, Patterson, and Ruelas.

Not trying to overrate Gatti I viewed him as a good but far from great type of fighter just a little better than some are making it seem.

I'd agree and rate Hatton above him as well.

Lots of people rate Jones up there in the h2h GOAT list and some call him the #1 at LHW (or even SMW, even though his résumé is EXTREMELY thin - more so than Mayweather's in nearly every weight division he ever fought)

It also gets cited as being a "great win" just due to its sheer dominance even though everybody recognized that Jones had every advantage stylistically and was closer to his prime. Those same proportions exist in Mayweather vs. Gatti and it was every bit as dominant (and Gatti a comparable fighter all-time p4p to Paz) - thus, every bit as "great" a win. If you want to say it wasn't you then also have to disagree with the majority who say Jones vs. Paz is a great win.

He drops in the odd shred of praise for Mayweather's ability or makes some passing critique of Pac in a small way, but his bias shows through by and large anytime he discusses either of them. He positively gushes over the latter and does everything he can to discredit the former and doesn't hold them up to equal standards in the least.

I understand where you're coming from. But Pacquiao and Mayweather aren't on equal standards. One of them is hands down ranked higher than the other.

Ability-wise, Floyd is better than Manny, and it isn't even close, IMO.

Floyd is much more skilled than Manny.

    Who cares.

Fact is, The very best Gatti stood zero chance of even coming close to beating Mayweather.

It's the hall of FAME, not the hall of skill. Gatti was a boxing celebrity and brought in a lot of casuals, he always had exciting fights and was fun to watch. He was good enough to compete with the best but not win. His blue collar attitude and huge heart made him super popular with the fans. For those reasons, he belongs in the hall of fame. The South Korean isn't in the hall of fame because he never got famous. It's right there in the title.

The Hall of Fame is supposed to be reserved for the best of the best. Gatti doesn't fit that description.

Getting in the Hall of Fame is now completely meaningless.
