:goodGood scoring, BUT....we all know 3 of those rounds could go either way, and apparently at least 2 swung Peterson's way in the eyes of 2 judges.:hey
I think I had the exact scorecard. Khan, with his flashy flurries and running which prevented Peterson from having even more success, did enough to nick it on mine. But the rounds which Peterson won, were more convincing, dominating rounds. I predict Peterson to handle him easier this time. He, like in previous fights, has shown the ability to adjust from one gameplan to another. Khan hasn't shown any signs of that, and I doubt he'll learn enough from now and until May 19th. Hope I'm wrong, though.
The fight was easy to score except the 10th and 12th round. Those are the ones that decided the fight
I agree with everything above, I had it one point for Lamont the first time I watched it. Khan does not adjust, the Maidana fight should of been the warning, learn to fight inside; yet he has the same giant defensive holes. I don't discount the idea of an early Khan knockout, but he slows after 4 in terms of workrate, and I think Peterson takes over from that point.
Round 10 was close but I thought Khan's volume punching won him the round. Round 12 easily was a Khan round IMO, but the point deduction made it even.
I just remember watching it live I had no problem with Peterson being declared the winner. It felt to me like he had won, but it was close. A lot of those rounds could go either way, or evenly, depending on how you score a bout. I liked Peterson's aggression, hard crisp body punches and occasional big head shots more so than Khan's flurry-like shots that could not keep Peterson off and did not land solidly as often as some think, and Khan's running around until he incessantly grabbed and pulled on the head or pushed Peterson away. It was a heck of a fight though and I'm looking forward to the rematch.
Perhaps one of the reasons why hes not learned much about inside fighting since Maidana, is because he knows hes not built for it. Due to his brittle punch resistance, its just not feasible for him to remain there. Very few people in the world are defensively astute on the inside, but its not a big hindrance for them because they at least have a reasonable ability to absorb punishment. Khan aint got that luxury. In order for him to cope effectively on the inside, he has to be able to take punches. Only if he was a defensive genius, would his weak chin be excused. Maybe thats why he has to resort to running, pushing, spoiling, etc. Simply because if he doesnt, hell get stopped far too easily. So with that, he has to at least develop the ability to control and keep the fight at long range. Hes got a good jab, but its a pity he doesnt know how to use it.
It's going to be another good fight that's for sure.. Lamont put it all out in front of his hometown fans and won the inside game, but Khan's handspeed and volume punching gave Lamont problems.. Khan actually wobbled LP a couple times, but LP's chin held up and his will to win helped get him through it. I'm looking forward to the rematch.
