Just remembered a pre prime Calzaghe vs. post prime Eubank was another solid win on his ledger.

to be fair, joe wasnt about genuinely stopping people, he was powderpuff, relying on volume or his cardiff referee cheating a stoppage countless times. he was never going to stop someone outside cardiff if they werent bums, and a fake stoppage on a major title fight like lacy would have ruined joe since the whole world would have seen it.

To this day i maintain that Hopkins won that fight. But i won't really argue with anyone who had it close for Calzaghe.
But most of his fanboys think Joe dominated that night, which is just ridiculous.

But no one really talks about Calzaghe being competitive with Hopkins. Joe proved that he can hang with the best of them.
Yes, Hopkins was 43, but he was still one of the best in the world(as he wold go on and prove time after time again). But Calzaghe himself was 36. They both looked sharp for men their ages.

    Joe exposed Hopkins?

How about Hopkins exposing Joe by showing how an elite leveller could bring his punch output down? 41 y/o spurt boxing Hopkins reduced his punch count by 100's . Think of how significantly Ward would have reduced it by.

i'd agree he was easily up by round 6 but the inactivity from then on due to his age let joe back in, by a fraction.

yes hop was still world class, if no longer an elite.

    and...?

So despite a 70% KO record he wasn’t a concussive puncher later in his career (hand damage) does that make his skills and ability any less?

One judge had Joe winning by 5 points against Hopkins, this despite a 1st Rd Flash knockdown for Bernard “Ill never lose to a white boy” Hopkins, thats equal to winning 7 of the remaining 11 rounds = exposed!

wonder if he damaged his hands hitting that refs belly multiple times. cos the ref barely noticed their effect.

joe was world class, lets not pretend. but he was a fake elite and never atg too, trying to argue hes best ever for marginalising a man in his mid40s. how embarrassing. even his hof classification is based on back-validating fake wbo defences

The fact that Hopkins and especially Roy were so much past their best and still put him down hurts Joe. The Lacey performance was excellent a shame he didn't fight anyone of note between Eubank to Lacey.

RJJ was like 5-6 years past his best and still gave him trouble. Would've beaten him had they fought earlier. Hopkins fight was very close. Lacy proved to be all hype. Kessler was injured (i was there when it happened) but it's still Calzaghes most impressive performance because he showed he could adapt after the first few rounds where he was in a bit of trouble. He was a great boxer no doubt anyway
