Cotto does not match up well with Pac. Cotto also just came off of a couple of brutal fights, he had to come down a little bit more in weight and had a poor corner. Pacquaio is one of the best fighters out there, you need to be at your best to have a shot at him. Cotto wasn't at his best going into that fight, and probably still loses even at his best due to how poorly he matches up with Pacquiao.
I had Cotto winning Round 3, which would make it 10-9 Pacquiao because of the knockdown (9-9 Lampley? WTF?). I had Pac winning Round 4, 10-8. The gifs that Philla posted pretty much told the story that Pac had Cotto's timing down pat so early in the fight, although after about Round 8 or so, Pac completely started to disregard Cotto's jab entirely (probably because Cotto wasn't throwing them with authority anymore) and walked through them instead of timing Cotto's jab and throwing straight lefts or right hooks.
Cotto's jab was getting countered over and over and over again even before the knockdowns. Its not a good tradeoff when for every jab that you're landing, you're eating 1 or 2 straight lefts to the chin.
I agree. Morales and Marquez (in the 2nd fight) both fought fire with fire. That is what causes Pac problems. That Mexican style of aggresive skilled fighting cannot be replicated by Floyd.
Cotto needs a new spark, hopefully with everything that has happend outside the ring makes him a hungry fighter. He abandon his style which was to prey and stalk his opponents. Cotto was always the aggressor and relentless body attacker. he does have a great jab, but jabs give fighters to think. I remember Cotto always attacking even when he was hurt badly, Torres and Clottey fight are example of what I mean. If he caught you in the ropes it was game over. In the Clottey fight he back up when he had Clottey in the ropes. In the Manny fight the same. I just don't feel Cotto has been focus the way he was in the beginning.
exactly philla, i said this to my brother when i was watching what can cotto do? if he throws a jab pacquaio counters and throws great punches if cotto tries to outbox him by being picky then that gives pacquaio the chance to jump all over him and launches 4-5 combo hits if cotto had quicker foot and head movement....also quicker hands then he would have put up a fight but his punch resistance, he gets hits way way too much
Cotto's jab (especially in rounds 1 and 2) was doing serious damage because it seems Pac had no answer for it. He could have easily won that fight behind that jab. The power shots in round 4 and up where nice but since Pac was ready for it and turtled up it did not have the same impact if it was an unexpected shot. Punches you don't see.... But yeah after the 1st KD, Cotto's mental defense went bye bye. And his noob corner could not refocus him and give him actual useful tactical information. The corner was just too inexperienced.
on boxing24 i made an article saying how pacquaio would literally kill cotto in 8 rounds and got slaughtered honestly hatton vs pacquaio i said the same thing you just said there mate, i said it to everyone i knew who cared about boxing, i never been so humiliated when hatton got the **** knocked out after that i became a pacquaio believer
That's what misled many of us. Manny is not as small as what everybody thinks. Next to Cotto and perhaps other welterweights Manny has similar height and reach. And lets not forget calf size, chest, and etc he has his advantages.
Even if he was on the juice, it's not like any jackass off the street can take some PED's and go from zero to hero. Nor can even your average titlist go from your average titlist to a p4p phenom. I'm not saying it wouldn't help but it doesn't give Pacquiao a right hand or a better ring IQ or the ability to beat the **** out of Cotto. If they did work like that, Fernando Vargas wouldn't have been picked apart by ODLH and ODLH VS Mosley wouldn't have been so competitive. Give you an edge? I'd certainly think so. But not that much.
Nope. Manny had Cotto's jab timed as early as Round 2. This content is protected Once Cotto was reduced to just jabs, and then not even throwing them with any conviction anymore, Pac no longer even bothered to time them, and instead walked through them.
yup, you need aggressive counter attacking style someone who has good hand and foot speed put together with good combo hits. imo floyd has everything apart from the aggression which is why i believe he will lose but if he comes out and fights in his early days when he used to be aggressive then he could win it i truly see pacquaio winning by UD over mayweather then a rematch happening which will show the real mayweather
That's were people are mistaken. Pac has been coming into the ring in the mid 140's since he was fighting at 130 lbs. He now comes into the ring at around 149 lbs. He's really not that small for a WW, his body is used to carrying around the weight. He's also been sparring with much bigger guys for some time. When you're as talented as Pac, size is not that big of a concern(within reason of course). He's way more talented than Cotto, and had the tools to exploit Cotto's weaknesses.
