Yeah, and it'll be a shocking one when it happens - someone we just don't expect. His punch resistance is excellent, and he does take some sting out by largely rolling with the punches, but he relies on that far, far too much.
yeah it'll ensure a fairly short career. it'll be interesting to see how he reacts when he does finally lose, as his 100% self confidence is a big part of his effectiveness.
well there was a lot of drawn rounds on your card then because there's no way dirrel won 8 rounds for running and holding.
I had it 116-112 for Dirrell. He landed the cleaner harder shots, hurt Froch in rounds 10 and 11, won the Championship rounds, made Froch look stupid by avoiding Carl's big shots with tremendous defence. In a couple of the middle rounds he was a bit naughty, holding and falling etc. But Froch also slammed him down which was disgraceful and rabbit punched.
He does have real confidence issues - very, very bad nerves (see amateur career, the Reid fight and the the first six rounds [plus walk in] vs Taylor) - so any type of loss, KO or not, is likely to wreck him. The Kessler fight is extraordinarily vital for Froch's career, more so than any one fight for any one fighter in the super six of those that are left.
yeah man, he takes plenty of flush ones on the chin, rolls with some, doesnt with others, thing is though theres only so much the body can take, then sorry to say it, he will KO'ed ill still think of him as having an iron chin though. Ricky Hatton is being under-rated on his chin, hes shot, and he had the same problem, took thousands of shots to his head in his career and it shortened his peak, sadly he got KO'ed
Great post. Dirrell did do some spoiling things, in rounds 6-9, but all the other rounds he maintained his distance with the jab and power punched when the opportunities presented themselves. Yeah he did fall down a couple times, but 2 of them were Froch either pulling him down with the back of his gloves or putting him in a headlock. There were a couple times where Froch actually looked at the back of Dirrells head and tried to punch him there. No deduction. The fight was a sham. The Italian judge actually gave the 11th round to Froch. :-(
Dirrell easily won 3 of the first 5 round. He also took rounds 5, 8, 10, 11 and 12. There's your 8 rounds. Tell me which one of these you think he didnt win and we can discuss it.
Absolutely - Hatton's the perfect comparison. However, Hatton, I would argue, was defensively pretty good at one point (until the Collazo fight), unlike Froch, as he rarely got tagged flush - even Tszyu even got him really flush a few times. Hatton had better reflexes, head movement and footwork (all three of which disappeared by the Maussa fight, though). When these went, he started taking the shots - maybe he was always chinnier than we thought.
