I don't know why everyone questions his defense. He got caught a few times with good right hands, but for the most part I think he slips alot of punches. He just doesn't care. He'll take some in order to deliever his own punishment. Thats his style. He will push Taylor back the same way he kept Miranda from coming forward.

Pavlik fights nothing like Gatti...the way he fought Miranda was his strategy for that particular fight, because he saw that Miranda can't fight on his back foot...even then Pavlik kept his hands up and chin down, something Gatti neglected to do alot...being aggressive is not the same as a peer street brawl...

I guess so. I'm just dazzled by his offense, power & the way he picks his shots.

Pavlik is not very hard to hit, but his chin and toughness make up for that. As he progresses, I think he will become a better defensive fighter.

watch him against Bronco Mckart...he was boxing with McKart, using a jab at times, and broke Mckart down in 6...McKart gave him a little trouble...

I just rewatched it as well.

Pavlik takes some sensational shots. So did Miranda. Not often you see two guys with chins like that, especially considering they hit so hard.

You can't take those shots all day though, Pavlik seemed to and Miranda clearly didn't.

Pavlik is really quite slow but he just doesn't stop punching and he has discouraging power with a chin that could potentially soak up anything in history.

He does have a defence but he is offensive minded. When he did put his hands up he could pick shots off but he just kept forgetting and not concentrating on it.

I think he is suspect to a good boxer, with a defence who can go 12. Some like Hopkins for example.

Pavlik looks a **** to fight. Taylor has to find himself a defence and he has to listen to Steward.

Pavlik can cut that ring off.

I'd like to see Pavlik remember his defence, work none stop behind the jab and go to the body even more. He certainly could be something. He looks like he has no speed or reflexes but alot of strength and power. He also appears to have a good set of intangiables i.e. stamina, chin and heart.

PS - Pavlik took some DISGUSTING punches and didn't stop, it's hard to see Taylor keeping him honest. He has to use speed and catch him with shots he doesn't see coming. I'm not sure Taylor can do that, both his jab and straight are badly telegraphed. His shot placement isn't good enough, nor is his accuracy.

I think Taylor is being underrated because he has looked bad against southpaw fighters with awkward styles for him since he became champ. Pavlik is a very tough, strong, tall fighter with a very good chin, but he is also an orthodox fighter with pretty basic skills and not much speed or any kind of great abilities. I'm picking on Taylor to win, but it will depend on how tough Pavlik really is, in the later rounds especially. Also, it will probably depend on how good he listens to Steward if he gets in trouble. People that think Pavlik will just run through Taylor to become champion are crazy.

BTW, this is on REGULAR HBO!! Wow! :hat

A taller, rangier, stronger, harder hitting Winky Wright? Agreed, his defence isn't on the same level but he appears to just soak it up and keep coming.

Taylor does get tired and in a 12 round fight can you see Taylor staying strong through to the end?

Who can forget the Spinks-Taylor press conference where he says he is tired in the 4th round and the dog comes out of him. TIRED IN THE FOURTH ROUND! The dog comes out of you in the championship rounds not the 4th flipping round!

Come on, you can't compare fighting Winky to fighting Pavlik. We'll see what happens. The thing that worries me more than anything and the reason why I wouldn't bet on Taylor is because I'm not sure if he's very motivated for this fight. He wants to move up to 168, so he has an excuse ready if he loses. This is a must-win situation for the hungrier Pavlik, but not a must-win situation for Taylor.

Look at the styles outside of the defence. The defence is different but Pavlik can soak it up.

I hate the weight excuse. They go north immediately after.

Pavlik amazes me because when I started watching him, I wasn't impressed at all with his boxing itself. In fact, I thought he looked rather poor. But somehow, he's great at the one thing that matters: results. He gets it done and is doing a lot of things right, but it's deceiving when first watching him box.

He's standing in the pocket, giving some, taking some.. it's just his style.
Nevertheless it's absolutely wonderful to watch :yep
