No way was Morales "shot" when he fought Pac the 2nd time.

Pac's gameplan was simply right for Erik: he drilled that body all night long and it showed on the later rounds.
Erik was confused as well with the up and down punches. Pac was such a head hunter when they first met in the ring.

Also I find it absurd that nobody saw that Pac was such a brawler when they first fought, but was better with his timing, in-and-out movement and general coordination (he kept the fight in the middle, Erik was having massive success on the ropes when they first fought) than their first bout.
That right hand was the perfect foil to Erik's successful jabs when they first fought.

No argument that Erik was past-prime on the conclusion tho.
But also, Pac was better than ever.

(Just figured out too that it was El Terrible that Bradley was mimicking against Pac, albeit poorly)

Nonetheless, Erik was such a badass that you can't take anything away from his win over Pac.
Switching to southpaw against a big puncher southpaw like Pac to electrify the crowd is unparalleled.

Also got me thinking, that maybe the best version of Pac to defeat JMM was the whirling dervish, un-methodoligical type that he was when they first fought.
Thing about JMM is once he figures out your rhythm, he will be rolling with and slipping your punches while countering you all night long.

But he was far removed from he best, though. You can tell his heart wasn't in it as much. ****, even in the final Barrera fight he couldn't be bothered with it anymore.

He was weigt drained, notice how he was meant to meet Zahir Raheem@133lb in his previous fight but failed to make the weight (Raheems team let it go and he got to weigh in at 134) then his next fight he's suddenly easily making 130 again? NO

PAC fought Margarito and destroyed him = Margarito was shot to **** that's why PAC fought him.

Cotto fight Margarito = Very good win and now Cotto is rejuvenated. It will be a good and dangerous fight for Floyd.

I still don't know how PAC was able to pulled 4 rds out of the first fight with a big ass cut over his eye. If not for the cut, I'm sure PAC could have pulled another 2 rounds to make it a draw. There's no denying that the cut played a big roll in how the fight went.

He might not have been shot but he was well past prime, weight drained & his body was in dire need of a rest from boxing because of all the abuse & the fact that Morales was a guy that fought 3 times a year on average meant he never had proper recovery time to heal going from one big fight to another.

I think mentally he had lost his hunger as well, that is obviously not pacs fault but only an agenda driven fool would say that the Morales of the first fight was the same guy as the Morales of the second fight.... that is just giving pac way too much credit.

Was pac better in the second fight tha he was in the first fight ?... yes, I think he was....... was Morales worse in the second fight than he was in the first ?... yes, definitely.

Morales at his best is just a better boxer than pacquiao, its that simple... the first fight when Erik was past his best proved all that needed to be proved.

    BINGO!

What i have been thinking for a while now...Even Nacho himself explained this in the build-up to their third fight....Problem is, JMM still managed to figure out Pac, when he was at his most dangerous.

I've said it for a while now, that while everyone loves to say how much more he has improved over the years, Manny was still at his most dangerous when he was that wild crazy unpredictable buzzsaw of the lower weights.

In the higher weights, his power (p4p) and speed were not as great as when he was in the lower weights, thus is why he was at his most effective when he was in the lower weights, even tho technically he has become better at the higher weights. The reason he seemed more "beatable" in the lower weights was because of the competition he was facing (Marquez/Morales) who are/were far more skilled then the guys he has faced at the higher weights. :deal

as for the main topic in the thread: I agree, Erik wasn't shot but he certainly was well past is best and weight drained. Still, Pacquiao does deserve much props for the win, and for the mere fact that he was the first and he's been the only one to stop El Terrible.

Morales was winning rounds in 2nd fight his right hand is money against southpaws. It's either he had no stamina left or couldn't cope with pacquaios pace in 2nd fight. Maybe it was weight drainage

Anyone who claims EM was "shot" when he had those fights with Pac are bat****. Seriously.....Erik had some ring mileage for sure, but he was in his late twenties. And that "ring mileage" EM had going into their trilogy, gave him the experience that produced that great performance where he beat Manny.

PAC did come back, improved his gameplan and used his superior physical advantages to beat Erik in the rematch and rubber match. EM is still hanging out at the top of the Jr WW division....I guess no one gave Erik the message that he was "shot".....like 5 years ago, "shot".

He hasn't been acting like he's shot, fighting like a shot fighter although he's CLEARLY well past the form that saw him beat Pac. Physically, Erik has slowed, operates on his experience and fights his age....just at higher level than most his age in this brutal Sport.

Next fight we might see a different Erik.....Father time will eventually beat everyone.

He had huge problems making weight, not to mention that was also a very low moment in his career.

Morales fought for just the money.
