Just rewatched. Pretty sure Victor's jaw broke end of the 9th. NOT 5/6!

I just don't see any clear evidence to the contrary. He took a lot of clean shots in the 7th and it was between 7/8 that he whisper's something to Garcia.

During the 8th when the break from the ropes his mouth is open he touches his chin with his glove and his mouth closes. I remember him saying he needed his glove to close his mouth so I watched. At the end of round 8 he gets a drink in the corner and closes his mouth around the water spout just fine. He also makes no attempt to spit like he has blood to rinse out of his mouth. He might have had a sore jaw in the 7th or POSSIBLY a hair line fracture but the real damage had yet to be done.

They showed a replay of the left hook towards the end of the round but Victor still closed his mouth after that. I think the damage came from the last blow of the round, a right as Victor is going away. His mouth is closed as he spins out, then he opens it before the right lands.

Obviously, this is speculation based on what I can piece together, but I just can't find any evidence that it was broken earlier. Especially not to the extent it ended up at the end of the fight.

He was bleeding profusely... Jeez did you want Victor to get permanent nerve damage?

I'm just discounting what his promoter and manager are saying about it being broken in round 5/6. I just don't see any evidence of that. They are trying to make it sound like he went 3/4 rounds with it broken like that.

Either way it was a smart move to pump the brakes on the next 3 rounds. Ouch

They're trying to look out for Victor and make him look good! They represent him..

PS: Who did you have winning after the 9th round?

    7-8th rd jaw was hurt.
    9th Rd Lopez busted it.

    When was the Sternum cracked???
    (That's what I'm looking for)

Either way stopping the fight was the right call.

Last question first. I didn't do a round by round but could see it even since it was back and forth. But, that leads to the first point.

MMA did very well in Japan because they didn't care which fighter won. The cared about which fighter came to fight. I simply can't stand a guy that doesn't do his share in making the action. Counter punchers deserve to get docked in the pro ranks.

Most fans, not to be confused with people on this site, will want to see him again.

Yeah it did, they showed on the replay the exact moment where you could clearly see Victor's jaw shift. Right after that he threw maybe a punch or 2 with no conviction, then he started getting on the bicycle.

Not sure the sternum was ever confirmed was it? Not a clue on that one. Maybe I should watch 7 again since that could be what he was whispering. It could have even been something that happened at the wrong angle for the camera to pickup though.

That's what he said but he was hurried out of the ring. The more cynical might say they wanted to get the best possible story out. They were probably already talking in the corner about what they would say. Victor originally said it was hurt in round one. The lies spin fast and furious in boxing. :nut

Either way it really doesn't matter. What we have entered is the PR spin zone. That is why it took two days to get a story. Its damage control. This story is to say that Victor fought valiantly for several rounds with a broken jaw, but after the second break it was too much. Then Garcia comes out and takes the blame, saying he should have stopped the fight earlier. That's all bull****, because we know he didn't want to stop the fight at all. Though he probably should have so Victor didn't have too, its called protecting your fighter, which he is paid by Victor to do.

The ref or DR would have stopped that fight anyways if they saw that blood, it was only a matter of time, granted it would have looked better for ORtiz had somebody else stopped it, that should have been his corner, but they wanted to send him back out there for what? To be permanently damaged? That's absurd.

It was a hell of a fight, and what is getting lost in all this **** is that Lopez fought his ass off, and how tough that kid is. He was busted up too, and his eye was closed when they stopped that fight, he looked much worse for wear than Ortiz. He looked like Rocky Dennis

for crissakes. They both need a good six months in my opinion to recover, and then they should get it on again, I'm sure it would be another war, which all of us fans love to see.
