Just rewatched Ward vs Froch and....

IMO Ward vs Froch wasn't that onsided 115-113 or 116-112 IMO and Froch won the last rounds.
Like you said Kovalev is a better boxer than Froch. This is an interesting fight i can see an Ward UD and Kovalev KO or a Ward DQ win here

 

Kovalev hits harder, has longer reach, is bigger, has a better jab, is faster than Froch. Watch Pascal-Froch, than watch Pascal-Kovalev. The fight against Froch was competitive (and Pascal was drained, he never fought 168 again after), the ones against Kovalev was not.

 

I think I had it 8-4 with Froch taking the last 4 rounds.

 

I think the big deal is that Ward was arguably at his best around the time he handily dealt with Froch (one of my favourite fighters, as it happens).

Since then Ward has, largely, wasted his career and talent.

Will ward be able to perform at that level again? If he cannot, he will be in big trouble.

Yeah, Froch and Kovalev are incedibly similar. They are both white, and don't come from the US. How different could they be really?​

 

I was satirising your own racism, Drenpou... the fact they are both white europeans is really the only thing they have in common. They both can punch, but their boxing styles are completely different, but you can't see that because you are blinded by your racism.

 

OK, Drenpou, let me give you a quick breakdown of thier styles:

Froch is generally a backfoot counterpuncher. If you actually look at his style, instead of how you think he fights because he's white, you will see that he fights off the backfoot and ideally likes his opponents to come to him. He has his hands down and he tries to draw his opponents in so he can try to hurt them with hard counters. If he manages to hurt his opponents, then he becomes the terminator, and comes forward looking to take his opponent out, but he usually does not do this unless his opponents is hurt first. Some exceptions to this are fights like the Dirrell fights where his opponent refused to play ball. If you look at the first round of that fight, you will see that Froch is, as usual standing off, trying to get his opponent to come to him, but Dirrell is refusing towards the end of the first round, the crowd starts too boo a bit, as barely a punch has been thrown, because they are both standing off, and so Froch decides he has to take the lead in that fight, which is not his natural game. But he still wins.

Kovalev is very much a come forward fighter, very different from Froch. He tries to overwhelm you with feints and punches. Unlike Froch who wants his opponents to come to him, Kovalev especially wants an opponent who is going to stand off, because then there is nothing in the way of him taking the lead, which he does and he uses it to bully his opponents. Throwing jabs and trying to outbox Kovalev from the outside usually doesn't work, to beat Kovalev you have to stop him bullying you, so you need a threat that will make him think twice about opening up himself, this is why I always think only a big puncher will really be able to beat Kovalev, and Ward is incredibly featherfisted.

 

Kovalev is a stalker.

Froch is a backfoot counter punchers.
