McCline hit Peter with one of the hardest right hands I've ever seen thrown in the heavyweight division. And that's why he went down the second time. No issues about chin. He got hit with punches he didn't see and got knocked down. Waldo never hit Peter with anything he didn't see because Waldo only throws right hands and an occassional left hook. Peter saw those punches coming all night. Plus he absorbed alot of those punches on his forearms. It was a fluke. Simple as that. Maskaev doesn't throw that kind of speed or wild style to get Peter unaware. He's your conventional 1-2 right hand puncher who will have much trouble hurting Peter. And Maskaev will get knocked out.
Dude that doesn't make any sense at all. He would not have gone down if Waldo didn't wreck his chin? I'm pretty sure if Waldo wrecked his chin he'd have gotten KO'd in that fight. It's very simple. A punch you don't see is going to hurt you a lot more than a punch you do see. You have a chance to brace for seen punches, or deflect them which is what Sam Peter did to Waldo all night long. Sure punches were getting through but only after hitting forearm and glove. So they didn't hurt as much. One other thing. A guy's chin wearing down is not the way you guys seem to take it literally. Being punch drunk is the same as being punch shy. A guy whose tolerance for pain has dropped as he gets older will find himself shying away from punches he'd normally take head on. And he finds himself getting caught unaware more frequently. Hence, he gets knocked around a bit more.
Peter didn't suffer a concussion in that fight. It'd be plainly obvious if he had. Nothing Waldo threw apart from that left hook in the 12th landed hard enough to accomplish that. He never had Sam in trouble until the 12th. Believe me if someone hits you hard enough to cause brain trauma you are going down.
If Maskev would of just manned up and fought him right away he could of made the upset, but hes been out of the ring for so long, i expect to see alot of rust.
Yes, I recall those days & though I was not yet a member I was 100% certain Peter was the very definition of hype job & the fact so many were blind to this amazed me! In fact I would say a good 80%+ of the people here were certifiable samuel nut lickers. Amazing to think so many could be swayed by propoganda. You can expect Joe to reveal another fraud come April.
As far as punch resistence goes, I disagree with Mexican Jew. Watching Lamons Brewsters career can prove to anyone theres no such thing, Brewster took big shots from Eitenne in 2000, took massive shots from Wlad in 04, who hit Brewster with bigger punches than Peter got hit with when he fought Wlad, Brewster went on to take punishment form both Keli Mehan and never went down, and had the fight of the year where he took shot after shot in a slugfest with Liakhovich and never went down. Mccline has probably the most underrated power in the divsion, his power early is one of the best in the divsion, he knocked down Brock, Briggs, Bryd, and Peter in early there fights, to later gas out and lose in the 3 out of 4 fights. Mccline is a big man at 6'6 268, a fighter that Peter had less than 10 days to prepare for. I think when he takes on Maskeav, he will prove the Mccline fight was nothing more than a fluke.
Yes I realise that punches cause trauma and that trauma does damage. But the extent of the damage is what we are talking about here. No punch in that entire fight besides the last round was clean or hard enough to accomplish that. Sure a guy who takes punches over his entire career will suffer significant damage in the long term. But you guys are making this out to be like he suffered this in one fight over 12 rounds where most of the punches were blocked or deflected. McCline hit Peter much harder and cleaner than Waldo did. And that's an easily observable fact when looking at the tapes. Eventually his lack of defense will catch up to him. But to say it did over those 12 rounds is ludicrous and only serves an agenda of making Waldo out to be a god. It seems to be an everyday thing on here.
Scam Cheater is a joke. When will people realize this guy hasn't beat a legitimate top 10 guy EVER. If Vitali ever gets to fight him, it will be over in 3 rounds maximum.
You can say that about a LOT of "Failed" fighters. Like Toney, dude could whoop the HWs he "lost" to, if he did what you said.
That may be true, though the fight probably would of been stopped before Brewster would of been knocked out. I understand what your trying to say, but cant a fighter just have a bad night? We all know Wlad has had a few, Peter just underestimated or just didnt train for the right person in this fight, I think will have to wait and see what happens in the Maskaev match before we start to jump to conclusions.
Flush is not catching forearms and gloves on the way to your target. McCline's uppercut hit Sam right under his chin, no deflection. Sam didn't even see or prepare for the punch. The second one landed even harder because Sam was square on his feet. He took that on full impact, stumbled backwards and then got hit with a monsterous right hand on the side of the head that he didn't see. In those 2 rounds Sam took more damage than he did from Waldo over 12. And that isn't disputeable. Watch the two fights again. Most of Waldo's punches were blocked or deflected, and just about all except that late left hook were seen coming.
It's got everything to do with preparation. McCline is 6'6 260lbs. Maskaev is like 6'2 230lbs. McCline is a fast unorthodox guy. He throws from many angles and gets tired quickly. Maskaev is a very orthodox, slow guy. He throws the typical 1-2 over 12 rounds and usually outlasts his opponents if he doesn't get knocked out first. It was plainly evident on the first knockdown. Sam walked to McCline with his hands down, and McCline landed a flush uppercut right under Sam's line of sight. Sam just never prepared for that. Infact, nobody up until Sam was taking McCline on short notice. He was the first to do so.
Exactly, as I stated before in other threads on this issue, Mccline and Makaev are completely different fighters. Peter didnt know his oppenent was until 9 or 10 days before the fight, so he had maybe a couple sessions with the different sparring partner they brought in to simulate what Mccline may be like in the ring. I also believe as you already said, Peter got hit with punches he never seen coming, especially some Vicious uppercuts. Wlad hit Peter with maybe 1/3 of the punches Mccline was able to land, Peter just had a off night, a wake up call of sorts. I just hope he doesnt take Maskaev too lightly, if he doesnt we should see a great performance from "The Nigerian Nightmare", that is Sam Peter.:yep
I'll be very surprised if this is competitive. I overlooked McCline's chances but Maskaev is not McCline. He doesn't have spurts of nervous energy where he throws hard combinations from different angles. He is a predictable, slow heavyweight who fights with his chin up in the air. And lets not forget Sam will have more than 10 days to prepare, too.
