    Hungry for cheesburgers maybe.

Gomez had no chance to fight on the outside as he was out of shape and smaller than his opponent...not a good combination.

He needed to bring the fight to Vitali, but instead of moving his head, he just put his hands up and away from his face and walked straight in.

Imagine if it was Ali out there and Gomez tried to use that hands so far away from my face defense. He would be picked apart.

****, Wladimir would have knocked Gomez out cold within 5 rounds.

Vitali certainly looked much crisper, and sharper vs Peter:yep

Right, but the criticism (not my criticism) is that he looked old and sloppy. I just think he was dealing with Gomez' tactics, which were all about frustrating him, headbutting, and avoiding getting ktfo. It's really hard to look impressive under those conditions...other than to knock the other guy out, which he did.

He could look impressive, but he lacks speed.

His brother would have likely beat the **** out of Gomez at a much faster rate considering his speed and explosive punches, plus his better athleticism and ability to move around the ring.

Possibly. I get the sense that Vitali knows he's a touch mo'f@^ker and is more than willing to scrap and rough up the other guy. It's a different style than Wlad's, who's much more clinical. Vitali just knows the other guy's going to succumb after enough rounds. Wlad never seems as confident, but gets the job done in a different way. My point was that I don't think Vitali's done by a long stretch. He's a 'messy' fighter, but always effective when it counts .

I thought Vitali adapted well to Gomez's defensive, awkward tactics. He would block Gomez's vaunted left with his right hand and then shoot back his right hand and nail Gomez in the head. Arm punches to be sure but they rattled Gomez and disrupted his gameplan. He also threw looping right hands and half-hook/uppercuts around Gomez's high guard to great effect. Later in the fight Vitali knew Gomez was weakening defensively so he started to move away from the soutpaws power left hand and just pulverized him with traditional lead rights and straight leftjabs. Vitali is always changing up his style to counter and confuse is opponent. He is a brilliant ring technician who only APPEARS robotic.

No they don't. but Vitaly is not a real heavyweight power puncher.

How many top guys has he starched early?

    None.

    I love how guys say
    a) Vitlay is a real big power puncher.
    b) Lewis has a glass chin.

If that's the case, how come Lewis was only hurt once against Vitlay, and after the second round was happily taking a flush shot to land one of his own?

I think they compare the two because they both have heavy hands. They appear to rattle an opponent from head to toe when they land a punch flush even if the guy remains upright. Both are so strong they can rattle you with arm punches and don't have to employ perfect technique to discourage an opponent. Also, like Vitali, George often had to beat on opponents especially big guys like Alex Steward for several rounds before they went down. He wiped out little guys like under 6 foot tall Joe Frazier early and impressively but Joe would be figting as a cruiser these days.

I remember how Larry Donald and his trainer laughed about Vitali...BEFORE the fight. Herbie Hide said in his corner after one round: "He is useless, to lose to him would be totally embarassing" Danny Williams' trainer said that if the fight goes past five rounds, it is a no brainer that Williams wins. Ring rust was supposed to be Vitali's undoing against Peter.

It is always the same with Vitali: On TV, he looks sloppy or stiff, because people compare him to other fighters with different body mechanics, not to other 6'8 fighters who are lean at 250 pounds. People watch him breathe with open mouth and don't see that he throws 70 punches a round, every round. Then the next opponent who is supposed to be faster, more skilled, better stamina, more heart or whatever gets knocked out and never looks like he could win the fight. Then the opponent is written off as overhyped, fat, old, scared and another fighter is mentioned who will surely beat Vitali. Some people just don't learn. Vitali doesn't need to dance, doesn't need textbook technique, he is the most effective fighter in boxing in the ratio of talent and results.

Haye is an exciting fighter with a lot of talent, great speed and power. Corrie Sanders had speed and power and a better chin than Haye and was beaten up badly by Vitali. Haye has nothing Vitali has not dealt with before. Haye has never dealt with anything close to Vitali's size, chin, power and awkwardness.

Yeah yeah, its funny how before these fights, the guys vits and wlad are to fight are gonna run rings round them, and make them look bad, but as soon as they get into the ring, these loud mouths never step it up, and once inside the ring realise just how big, strong and heavy handed they really are, haye has a chance, but by god i and others will never let people who said he will KO both of them live it down if (and theres a great chance it will happen) he gets in there and then finds out he cant hurt them, big punch or not, to use it he will need to get past the jab and his chin is still completly untested as a HW barrett did not really test it, wlad and Vits will.
