And already then he was an *sshole (just as usual being very disrespectfull to his opponent and making it personal rather then see an opponent as just an opponent). In terms of boxing skills he looked 10 times better then now though.
i agree.. i think he was better back in the day. everyone says that hes so much more improved now, but i disagree... hes a better fighter yes, but not because of anything besides wisdom.... his actual ABILITY has went down. People are getting fooled by the results... old wlad would have KILLED brock WAY worse, would have taken austin out in 1, would have destroyed that byrd even worse.. i mean... the only posotive is his wisdom allowed him to get through the peter fight imo, perhaps young wlad would have gassed, panicked, ect... that is the only improvement i can see. He has the wisdom to keep his cool now... to clinch more...
That is pretty funny also but they didn't have quite the same impact as Wlad's slaughtering. The German crowd went deadly silent as they watched their hero humiliated. The look on his face at the end was priceless, knowing he'd throw away a huge potential title fight with Lewis.
Who was Vlad fighting and how did he make it "personal"? Vlad has always seemed very respectful of opponents in my view.
Wlad was more aggressive in the old days and would slaughter anyone, but his defense was alot worse, he would throw so many punches then tire himself out. The new Wlad is less agressive but he is a more well rounded fighter.
In his amateur days Vlad didn't have the control of his body movement that he acquired later as a pro. His balance wasn't nearly as good. As an amateur Vlad put his height and reach to excellent use, but still, he didn't have the polish of Teofilo Stevenson, whom he resembled in terms of physique. I don't think the amateur version of Vlad could have stood up to the amateur versions of Teofilo Stevenson or George Foreman. I do believe that Vlad made a better amateur however than other Olympic gold medalists at heavyweight, such as Tyrell Biggs and Audley Harrison. I'm not sure how the 1996 Vlad would have fared against the amateur Lewis who won Gold in 1988. Ditto for Vlad vs. the 2004 Sasha Povetkin.
I agree, Wlad looked like a total ***** in that fight. Wlad was a more offensive in his early days, and much more exciting, however he's more calculating now, and is an overall better fighter under the watchful eye of the great trainer Manny Steward.
I think the "new" Wlad does better against a more varied competition. The old Wlad, who had far more in his arsenal than a jab and straight right, had flaws. His defence was not as good and he could get caught by average fighters. Now though, his style lacks the flash it did several years ago, but it is much more efficient. I don't see Wlad losing at all now, because his simple offence works very well and his defence is great too. To beeat Wlad in 2008, you need a lot more than what you would need to beat him several years ago. He may not be as pleasing on the eye, but he's a better fighter now.
I saw the fight between Wlad and Wolfgramm in the final .. it really wasn't made into a personal affair...
yeah stupid ****ing boxers making it personal when they're about to kick someones ass. You're the only moron in the sport that thinks Wlad is anything other than a great sport and nice to everyone.
He probably laughed pretty hard at you when he was a multi millionaire getting ***** and you make 30,000 a year and probably don't ever get any.
