It is technically impossible to get a good scoring of a fight when you're trying to enjoy it, so on tonights replay i tuned out the entire broadcast and objectively scored the fight. Here's my scorecard. Round 1 10-9 Kessler Round 2 10-9 Froch Round 3 10-9 Froch Round 4 10-9 Froch Round 5 10-9 Kessler Round 6 Even. Couldn't give it to either guy Round 7 10-9 Froch Round 8 10-9 Froch Round 9 10-9 Kessler Round 10 10-9 Kessler Round 11 10-9 Kessler (kessler had froch rocked in this round) Round 12 10-9 Froch (kessler gassed, causing him to lose on my card) It was easy to see that froch won convincingly because of the racous crowd, him ineffectively charging forward, and the obviously biased HBO crew, but the most eye catching shots and the effective aggressor was kessler, when he let his hands go. Kessler gave this fight away more than Carl took it. a 115-114 win for Froch on home turf isn't setting the record straight and he owes the dane a 3rd fight. He's not on the level of either Ward or Hopkins and would be decisioned wide in both fights. A busier kessler wins in a neutral venue if he wants a 3rd fight.
I had froch by 3 clear rounds it was a close fight again hey it's not like froch said no to kessler III ? he even suggested it to kessler.
I'd like to see kessler beat up Steiglitz for a title belt while froch gets handled by either ward or b-hop and then rematch kessler in Vegas, baby. They'd love those guys in LV.
SAme but i couldnt decide on 10th so i scored it 10 10, 115 114 Froch, but i see most gave 10th to Froch so i maybe missed something.
You're bound to get **** for this, as I did in the RBR, but Kessler's quality really did carry the day in the 1st. Yes, Froch pumped out lots and lots of jabs. He didn't land many of them, however (certainly less than CompuBox said) and Kessler's body shots and couple of robust left hooks counted for more due to quality even if numerically less than Froch's busy, low-percentage jab.
I had the sound down part way and that was my impression but I was watching the Brit feed and damned THEY thought it was clear cut Froch... In truth I just sit back and enjoy and try and keep a mental tally but if I get too far off what the commentators are saying I give up. I certainly don't mind a fighter throwing fewer punches when it isn't simply to avoid a fight. Kessler kept engaged and came forward his fair share. Sometimes it is a matter of focus. I'd see Kessler land and they'd be talking about a shot by Froch. I've said before it is easier for me to score a fight in person when I'm closer to the action so I try not to give refs too much grief, but Byrd? atsch I guess she is used to scoring by crowd cheers?:think
I had it a draw, but I wasn't mad at the decision because a lot of rounds were close. I think the 115-113 was pretty good, given that Froch was the home fighter and I can see how the crowed influenced the score in those close rounds.
I'm not much of a fan of either but I thought it was a clear Froch victory. I scored a replay with the sound low. He rarely landed a shot or combination Froch didn't match or exceed within the same round. I marked which rounds were close however, and if I went back and scored them for Kessler, I'd have it 115-113. Not a bad score, probably the maximum you could award Kessler.
I agree that it was very close. Froch's activity and the home crowd ensured him the victory - but Kessler was the more accurate guy by a wide margin. Had this taken place in a neutral venue, the scorecards would have been very close indeed. There should definitely be a third fight, but not straight away.
I agree, but also throughout the fight Kessler landed body shots that apparently were not counted. I had him taking the first also.
