    :lol::lol::lol::lol:

    That shoulder roll/philly shell defense has been around for ever, you think mayweather is the first boxer to tuck his chin behind a shoulder and parry with right hands? Mayweather may have his own variation but this is no innovation:

    Your brain is wasted to **** if you believe this.... Robinson would KO both of those pricks, Mayweather would do better as he is better than Pacquiao but both would get knocked spark out.

    Joe Louis is a great example. Being called slow of foot because he doesn't dance around on the back-foot. He was an expert at judging time and distance as we know, hence why his timing was so good, which helped him defensively in that you say, he used subtle moments to slip just in and out of range. He didn't need to bounce around expending energy, he was what he was, a boxer-puncher with great composite punching skills in terms of his variety, technique, feints, precision and of course speed and power, which naturally lead itself to a more flat-footed style as a whole to suit those strengths. The fact he's been called slow footed in the past merely highlights the many subtleties to his style and shows that a few have rather missed the point as to why his footwork was so good.

    Gene Fullmer himself used a slight variation in that he used to pick off jabs and parry with his right hand aswell, although he didn't bring his left shoulder up and instead keep his left hand up around his chest.

    cant see the video but the conversation was about Sr defensce and Jr

    Jr. is far superior and due to his own ''variation'' of it is far superior to anybody who ever used it
    Nard perfected the standard shell
    Toney is close but no where near as good as Jr or Nard

    :lol:There's a reason guys like Floyd and James Toney are considered "old school". Why do you think that is? Because the techniques they utilize, such as the shoulder roll defense, are patterned directly after the techniques utilized in the 30's, 40's, and even prior. These techniques have been around forever. If Floyd's the only one in today's game with the aptitude to pull it off convincingly then that just reiterates the point a lot of us have been making in regards to the sharp technical decline in today's game.

    The fact that the oft-used techniques Floyd puts on display are considered revolutionary is laughable and a testament to just how far boxing has fallen that the current fanbase is scarcely even aware of them.

    Why? Like I said, Robinson had terrific balance. He could effortlessly slip in and out of range with subtle steps yet always remained in the position where he could generate power from his legs because his feet where planted. You don't know out a guy with an iron-chin with one-punch going backwards without great footwork. I take it you aren't impressed because you haven't seen him on the back-foot like Mayweather doing a Dirrell vs Froch impression? :lol:

    The 'conversation' was about you trying to say 'there was no Mayweather defence [i.e. the philly shell] before Mayweather'. When Swarmer in fact highlighted that it has been around for decades and was used by Archie Moore back in the '50's.

    :lol:Really? Name some fighters (aside from the two you just did) who were known for this method of defense and compare and contrast their skills with Floyd. I will keep bugging you until you do, by the way.
