Just spent 2 hours watching Ray Robinson and...

Mayweather would have trouble winning a round or two off of Ray. Either Sugar Ray actually.

 

I was talking in more general terms though, because it happens all the time. This guy might be trolling or he might be serious, but there are still some many threads where what I stated happens, it's crazy.

He fought 4 times in 10 weeks at one point, including fights with Gavilan and Belloise. He also fought two scheduled 15 rounders in a month with Bobo Olson [which went the distance] and Graziano. I'd like to see modern fighters do that.

 

All things being equal, so advanced training methods, nutrition etc, and Robinson gets the nod against most people around 147 in my opinion. Not for any nostalgic reason but simply because in many cases they old time fighters were far more active, had far far more rounds under the belt and had more experience, of both winning and in some cases losing as well as being ridiculously tough and hardy, these guys were sometimes malnourished and still turned up to fight. They often fought everyone and anyone. Add that it in to the fact that Robinson was a pioneer with debateably more talent than almost anyone bar a few exceptions ever and you have a lethal fighting machine on your hands.

 

His hand speed and technique is there to see. His power knocked out people with iron chins.

If he was born in the 80s he would be the best fighter in the world today.

 

Speed, power, defense, chin and heart. This dude fought...everyone...everywhere. He went on a European tour. Lost the title and came back to win it. I mean, this dude defied odds at a late age in a golden era. His combinations were blistering, his power broke defenses and rendered GROWN men tearful in addition to having a chin to walk all the way up to Light Heavyweight. You need to invest more time.

SRR was the truth man. Put him in Mosley's place this year May 1 and Mayweather gets KTFO in that second round.

 

Nope, actually it isn't. Mayweather's great, but he'd be outgunned by both. Robinson would have put him in full defensive mode and Leonard could have beaten him in a fight or in a boxing match. Pacquiao would get knocked the **** out as well.

 

I think hearns and leonard give him a great run for his money.

 

Remember, you're talking PBF versus two real all time great welterweights, guys who have a dangerous combination of speed, power, and skill and proved it against dudes their own size time and time again. PBF is not at his best as a WW, can he really outbox guys who have much longer reach, hands as quick or quicker, and greater power? These guys are on a totally different level than Judah, old man mosley, a faded Hoya and Hatton... It's just a horrible match up for floyd. either guy.

Yep. Maybe he could survive a fight with a defensive Leonard. I think Robinson would make short work of him too.

 

instead of this thread going pac/may vs srr, its better to discuss the opposition of ray robinson and his skills and if he is overrrated by nostalgics or not. That would give a fun discussion.
