Mayweather couldn't shut out De La Hoya, Castillo, Hatton, and Judah. He got blasted by Mosley. You don't think Robinson could win a round? You don't think there wouldn't be a point where he'd hurt Floyd? That's absurd. It really is.

What makes you think they couldn't or wouldn't?????
The reason it is the way it is now is for PPV and promotional $$$ purposes...

If the fight went 12 or 15 I'd agree, but I honestly don't believe Mayweather would make it out of the first 4 or 5 rounds against Robinson. If Mosley was able to devise a simple strategy of jabbing to the body and coming up stairs with the right hand and rock Mayweather, Robinson is more than capable of doing the same.

And even if he failed to put Mayweather away like Mosley, Shane never found another strategy. Robinson is adaptable enough to come up with new gameplans and remain a constant threat for the entire fight. He could essentially take Floyd out at any time.

If the thread starter knows little about actual boxing, how does that make him a credible source on which to judge boxing ability?

At that point, every person on the block boxed. In order to stand out in such fierce competition with the record that Robinson did, you are forced to be great.

You can tell by watching stylistic implications of Robinson's opponents. They didn't just walk into punches squared up like Ricky Hatton.

Rely on speed and athletic ability, being a former shell of himself as he aged, (DLH), just learning how to box recently, (Mosley), and honestly who else is there worth mentioning?

A bunch of face first brawlers like Chico, Corralles, and Hernandez?

Guys like Lamotta and even Basillo had subtle movements that allowed them to prosper in that sort of climate, but Robinson's ability and tallent allowed him to soar.

Aren't sharp/crisp? Winging combos? Are you sure you're watching the right guy? He throws beautiful combos to the head and body, accurately punches vital points and hits through them hard. He's not TKOing dudes on accumulation like Pacquiao. He's knocking them dead cold. There is no comparison. You are right in that his defense is so-so. He gets hit. But he could bull through and box or punch his way to victory despite that.

    Mayweather shutting him out...

    Alright there's a load of guy's who'd give SRR fits. :D
Bloody deep division! I just feel SRR would find a way against all of them. Hearns with his left and height would give any ww in history problems. A head to head nightmare.

    You are so right.

Leonard was an incredible fighter. Underrated almost. Dude could shoulder roll better than Mayweather when he wanted to. Mayweather is a great boxer sure, Leonard was a great great boxer with great speed. He could brawl too and he had tremendous power to both head and body. His KOs of Ranzany and Dave Green were really quite scary. Robinson too had the silky skills and speed but tremendous hitting power with it. The combination is irresistible. Mayweather vs Leonard or Robinson = Floyd on his arse.

I kinda know where he's coming from. I rate SRR at number 1, but if you look at his film, you'll see techniques that he's using that would be seen as bad nowadays. Same with fighters like Jack Johnson. Boxing is a science and the science has been mastered and perfected over the years and the training and nutrition creates better athletes.
Now the top athletes aren't going into boxing and going into other sports in this generation and I believe the best athletes genetics wise were in the 80's (except heavyweight), but I think id SRR was in our generation he'd still be the best in the world

Robinson had power, a good chin, every punch in the book, outstanding footwork, speed and heart. That's why he is rated P4P No.1. Floyd does not match SRR under any criteria you wish to choose.

Floyd is great but this thread is a bit silly really.

Skills and science progress but many boxing skills have been lost. If you think about Jack Johnson you think of a great defence with excellent in-fighting skills.

Robinson like the top fighters of his day was able to attack and throw punches while still having an excellent defence as he moved forward. Few fighter today maintain a good defence while moving forward.

Good head movement is also rarely seen these days. Look at Roach's fighters - they take way too many punches when they attack. They rely on out punching their opponent with speed and power.
