Some people are really making themselves look stupid in this thread.

The initial trolling really got the wheels in motion, and suddenly Ray Robinson isn't that good because of modern sports science, **** me.

Graziano had an awful Chin. That KO is not very impressive.

Jesus .. I swear. You just don't know anything do you son. Do us a favor and think before you post. You just look eff'n silly. icanmanifest, you must not realize that the term "Pound 4 Pound" was because of Ray Robinson. He was light years ahead of any fighter of his time. They had to invent a phrase to describe how awesome he was, champion was just not enough.

Go back to the tapes, and watch fighters of that era, than re watch "Sugar". Try to compare Robinson with those fighters .. if you can.

THIS is like a bad version of the telephone game... i NEVER said he wasn't that good... i said I wasn't convinced he was the greatest P4P fighter... that his technique appeared somewhat sloppy in spots, and quite frankly I amongst several others are naming people who could beat or at least really cause him problems....

and the more and more this thread goes on the more I am more emboldened by my first thoughts... What the hell is so amazing about the guys he's facing anyways... i didn't see a one of them that looked anywhere near on par as some of the talented fighters we've had in even the last 20 years...
someone is only as great as their competition... who did he ever face that was on level of a Mayweather or Pacquiao or SRL.. take your pick....
From the footage I watched he looks way better than the guys he's fighting, but none of them looked special in ANY WAY...

I'm not trying to tear down the guy... I was impressed by things i saw... i didn't say the guy is a bum i didn't say he wasn't great... what i said is I don't see the P4P cred. Not in the least... Period

You can say whatever you want but skills and luck win fights... and his skills appeared sub par vs some of the greats I've watched in my lifetime..

But don't be stupid and turn this into some BS that he said he isn't good or even great or skilled...i never said any such thing. To me he looked like he had flawed technique that he got away with vs the competition he was facing that I think he would seriously pay for and lose against other fighters...

It is my understanding that relative old timers Ali and SRL and fighters of this era Hopkins and RJJ rate SRR as the greatest. That is not to trash FMJ or Pacman. Please tell me why I should rate your opinion over some of the greatest fighters ever, including modern ones.

Thats one of the fights I watched... someone was saying Graziano fought like Pacquiao... are you F-ing kidding me??? What was so amazing about that guy??

To me this is just like discussions on how Bruce Lee would do in MMA... answer... he'd get his ass handed to him... yet he's called the father of MMA and basically popularized the whole idea of it...

    face it... things progress

No one looks to the current generation as their idols... duh..

in 10-20 years a handful of young studs will say a few guys from THIS era are their all time favs, AND some young lion will be saying how he is better than anyone of all time... it's just the way it works...

    Evolution does occur.

Look at basketball. The old-timers swear -- they swear! -- that Bob Cousy was the best point guard ever!

And was not Michael Jordan an evolutionary quanta or two ahead of Julius Erving?

Kobe Bryant has even advanced somewhat upon Jordan (though overall I think Jordan is the better player).

Is Sugar Ray Robinson --> Sugar Ray Leonard's

    Julius Erving --> Michael Jordan?

(Floyd is in another evolutionary branch altogether)
