it was based purely on punching power, they thought cotto hit alot harder than he did and if he had hit as hard as they had predicted he would've knocked margarito out.

how many damn threads are there now of the same stuff over and over?

It was more boxing ability and skills than punching power, I really didn't expect Cotto to KO him, my prediction was always UD and IF KO came it would be a perfect liver shot, no way a head shot.

As I said, mostly based on Cotto's proven boxing ability and underrated skills. The only downfall was his stamina and defense which I knew could play a major role but didn't expect it to go THAT far. I still stood by my prediction though after watching Bert Sugar's prediction on YouTube I started to get very nervous as the fight close. The interview has Sugar clearly saying that Cotto tends to kneel with his head down a lot and Margarito's best punch is the uppercut and he proceeded to say that this will be the reason why he's prediciting Margarito by TKO in the 8th. I remember that I took that interview VERY seriously and discussed it a lot with my brother as we both saw it together and agreed that it was a very very good/scary point. Bert got it right in the end.

I picked cotto to win by a close UD (I think my prediction was 116-112) I never would have picked cotto to win by knockout for the same reason I wouldn't pick anyone at 147 and most at 154 because that man chin is made of iron but my reasons for picking cotto were as follows:

-cotto superior boxing ability (which he demonstrated the first half of the fight)
-cotto being the faster man (which was noticable until cotto tired)
-cotto ability to throw more crisp combinations (again that was showed in the fight and margarito ate them)
-cotto body puncing ability (I understand margarito has great body punching ability himself, but I thought cotto body punching ability to go along with his boxing skills (which were light years ahead of margarito's) would have proved to be too much for margarito to handle and I was wrong, In the actual fight this would prove to be absent in the fight altogether)
-cotto defense (I felt cotto defense was better)

so there you have it those were my reasons for picking miguel cotto to beat antonio margarito that night. I did somewhat question cotto stanima ablility (started feeling this way after looking at the mosley fight at certain moments) going into the fight but I felt cotto would defintley have enough to win (so no excuses from my part) a hard fought fight against margarito. As boxing goes anything can happen and what did happen was antonio margarito beating a very good fighter in cotto and I respect him for that, congratulations margarito.

Cottos chin should have gotten more attention and his small size, hes something like 5'7 where margo stands at 6'1. People figured cottos superb boxing skills would negate margos advantages. However Margo was the determined fighter and Cotto came in with a poor gameplan and worse execution. Margarito executed his plan flawlessly and messed cotto up bad.

Because even now, people still hate on Margarito because he is seen as a brawler not a boxer.

Lots of people thought Marg was there to be hit and that Cotto's punches would take a toll on Marg...Think about it after the fight we learned Marg is tougher than we all thought. No other fighter (not even Williams) would have taken those shots Marg did that night.

It had nothing to do with punching power lol. People thought Cotto would use his superior boxing ability, which he did for the first half of the fight (which even most Margo fans knew would happen), but in the end people overrated Cottos ability to handle the shots of a big welterweight.

No one hates him because he's a brawler, boxing fans(casuals and hardcore) all love to watch brawlers as they tend to bring more action based on their styles.

If he's hated then he's hated for a few ******ed fans and the bull**** media hype about being the most feared man on the planet.

well i thought it was a bit too much to think cotto was going to totally ko margarito like some did... but to come to their defence

Margarito gets hit a lot, and cotto had a habit of totally ****ing up the faces of people he landed on a lot... so even if margarito could physically take the punches, there was no reason to think his actual face and skin were...

and i think that is pretty reasonable... i can understand why they thought that. actually i am still amazed... it just doesnt seem realistic that a guy can take that many sharp, flush punches and not be cut, ****ed up, ect... all he did was swell a bit. crazy

how was it a poor gameplan? he totally whitewashed margarito just about up till round 7... in fact it was also perfect execution for awhile, problem is... when someone is fighting someone almost 6 inches taller then them, and bigger then them, who can take everything, throws 100 punches a round and pressures you non stop... no gameplan will hold up for long and you will be forced into a dog fight. but they had no reason to think that cotto couldnt do what he was doing for the first 6, for the last 6... now they do, so this time he should keep with the slick boxing, but since he knows he wont be stopping marg.... dont put as much energy into his shots like he was doing in the first fight, do his best to conserve more energy, and do his best to go to the body more... and maybe throw less punches...

but all in all, cotto just physically might not be able to beat margarito... then again, if he can win one more round then he did the first time... and stays on his feet the rest of the way, he can win the fight.

but the poor gameplan thing, someone cottos size when facing a thing like margarito is limited really in his options...

Dont look at me, I was one of the first ones to actually pick Margo over Cotto and laughed at all those ******ed Cotto was tailor made for Margarito threads.

I was actually influenced by AllBlack's post when the fight was suppose to happen last year but William's interrupted. When you break it down, all of Margarito's strengths fit perfectly against Cotto's weaknesses.
