You see, the problem with the "pro-Ali" version here is that we have the video of the fight. The video exists. So we can just watch the video and ignore whatever the delusional nuthuggers have to say. Norton kicked his ass. Deal with it.
Rusak....the fight was scored 8-7, 8-6-1 by the 2judges and the ref. The ref was Arthur Mercante probably the most respected boxing ref in the last 50 years. A panel of boxing experts and past champions such as Pep, Louis and Frazier ....panel I believe consisted of a Dozen people scored the fight a draw after 15 rounds. I've scored the fight many times since 1976 and it's a close fight. No one kicked anyone's ass and I've never heard of anyone saying anyone kicked anyone's ass......except you that is.
I don't care how "respected" Mercante was. He was dead wrong with those scores. You're telling me about Mercante and some panel of boxing experts, when Ali himself admitted he lost. And Norton most definitely kicked his ass. Norton won the 15th round too - most of Ali's jabs didn't land and Norton clocked him good before the bell. Somehow Norton got only a split decision in the first fight, when Ali hardly won a round and took a real beating. That disgraceful scoring just goes to show how hard it was to get a fair shake against Ali in the 70s.
You know Ali gets worshipped more than any other boxer when his delousional fans try and defend him winning a fight that he openly admitted to losing atsch
You have your information wrong totally, yes there was a program on WWS the week after the bout on the match but not they way you have it. They brought together a panel of respected boxing experts to judge the entire 15 rounds with Kenny present, and at the conclusion the panel voted the bout a draw. While Ken was suprised he could not contest the qualifications of those who voted it such.
The bout will never be settled with the boxing public but as with the WWS panel (above post) the judges, the Associated Press (9-6 for Ali) and many boxing fans it was an even bout with the 15th round where Kenny gave it to Ali making the differance.
rusak, your opinion is as good as any other fan, but way below the expertise and history of Arthur Mercante. In the last round rusak, in the first minute Ken tossed one missed jab while Ali landed four, in the second minute Ken landed one jab while Ali landed six, and in the last 30 seconds of the bout Ken landed five hard blows to two light ones from Ali, a strong closing but he neither stunned or hurt him nor made up for losing the first 3/4ths of the round.
I was there. Saw the fight LIVE. Ali did enough to win. He was a step ahead of Norton all nite long. Nevertheless, a substandard performance for both fighters. Both could have performed better. Both tired down the stretch. Both could have been in better condition.
Astonishing how many buy into the Ai legend crap .. Norton out punched and out fought him in that fight , not questions ..
I respect what you saw and how you scored it, especially as your the only one posting here who was there. Many agree with you including the associated press, the judges, the WWS panel, and many boxing fans.
You have to keep in mind if you watch that fight Norton is spent in the later rounds..Not to mention the Extra order of sick jabs he was takin all night certainly took a toll on him,
