A few scousers booed, not big time at all -fullstop- Reid drew the fight, but lost the boxing match according to the round by round scoring system -fullstop-

feck off, the fight was in Newcastle, watch the fight again when the decision is announced you can hear a loud booooooooooooooooooooo

fair enough, although i would say, a lot of Calzaghe's punches were landing on the arms and gloves of Reid, where as Reid was landing the harder punches, how Calzaghe kept taking those right hands I will never know

Calzaghe won the fight, it was the closest hes been pushed but it was a fairly clear win unless your a blind Calzaghe hater.

How can it be a clear win, if he was outpunched

BTW I am a big Calzaghe supporter

Compubox numbers can be decieving. Remember, the judges have no access to the compubox numbers and, for me anyway, when you watch the fight i think Calzaghe wins it pretty clear. After the fight Reid admits he didnt do enough to win, but there should have been a rematch IMO.

    touched a nerve have I?

Firstly DLH-FM was in Vegas on a Mexican celebration weeked (IE Oscar was the home fighter, which Reid was not), also the crowd tend to think the aggressor is doing more, which once again doesnt apply as Reid was the counterpuncher.

My point was that your comparison was completely irrelevant.

Secondly, the punch stats show that JC was fairly inaccurate compared to Reid's. Reid's punches were also having more of an affect on Calzaghe than vice versa.

I dont have the interviews directly after the fight, but i do remember 5years later Reid complaining on a weekly basis that he got robbed on the beeb

To me it all depended on which you prefer (as the judges scoring suggested) a fast handed flurrier (not sure thats a word) or a harder punching counter puncher

I had it close but clear for Calzaghe, 2 or 3 rounds if I remember. The fact that Reid was deducted 1 point, making it a 10-8 round was significant.

Joe took that round by 2 points, as stated above. Reid therefore needed to win 7 of the other 11 for a win. Do you honestly think he won 7 rounds, especially considering the first few were clearly Calzaghe's?

    Fair cop fellas.

I remember watching it as 15 year old and thinking that Reid won by a point. In hindsight I'd say he lost by a point.

In other words the point deduction being decisive (and deserved too). It pisses me off when people claim it was a clear decision though

If you watch the entrances to the fight Reid gets a much better reception than Calzaghe, at that time in 1999 he didnt have much of a fanbase in England. Listen to the boo's as Calzaghe enters the ring. The crowd favoured Reid, but it was also close.

He said after "Im not going to moan about it, i knew it was a close-ish fight. It depends what sort of judges" and "I agree, he won the fight, he was picking in his points. Maybe if the judges preferred my style i would have got it."

I had it to Calzaghe 7 rounds to 5, it was very close though.
