Scoring Bernard Hopkins fight is not in many people's resume under Hobbies and Interests. I had Calzaghe as the scorecard winner and the moral victor but I do take into account the cuffing nature of Calzaghe's blows - but it always amazes me how American's love come forward, agressive, make the fight happen type fighters and then suddenly become all technical when the American is picking his punches. And lets be honest here. Hopkins fought like a ***** over the last few rounds. Doing the same moaning for fake low blows which John Ruiz was harangued for.
Ring generalship is controlling the pace and distance of the fight and commanding the centre of the ring. Calzaghe was clearly the ring general in that fight.
Its either a british vs american thing or a black vs white thing. **** it i dont think their are any winners from this fight. We the fans are the real ones who lost here :-(
If Calzaghe so clearly won that fight then why is there such widespread dispute to that?? People think activity spells winning. Just because you're shooting a machine gun versus a sniper doesn't mean the machine gun is automatically winning. Especially if you're not hitting anything. Can anyone who says this is such a landslide for Calzaghe break down some rounds for me where he landed flush punches continuously?? Not that amateurish SLAPPING he does. Look at the faces of each combatant after the fight. Who's looks worse? Me personally I gave it a draw because while Calzaghe did nothing but slap, his activity did keep Bernard at bay. But he definitely absorb some shots as itemized by someone here. He literally almost went down at the end of the round 7 or 8 I believe. Watch that.
Hopkins fought like a disgrace, hugging after every punch, fouling, faking low blows. Calzaghe won clearly in a very poor fight, why anyone wants to see that again beats me. Hopkins just can't keep up with Joe at this stage.
