My thoughts? Boxing was awesome back then, with the best fighting the best. Whitaker being robbed was more than hype, but true. He clearly shut Chavez out from round 7 through 12 and won rounds in between. In similar Mayweather fashion he figured him out and shut him out. Judging from this fight I can see why some believe Whitaker defeats Mayweather, but I like both so its up for debate. I usually bet on Floyd, but I'd never bet against Sweat Pea. He didn't have much pop, but his defense frustrates the hell out of you which creates his offense. His crouching defense and ability to make you miss. This guy is awesome. I don't have much personal time, but this was worth it.
Now Chavez, awesome pressure fighter, but I heard debates on him and PAC. Chavez gives him greater resistance when it come because of the angles and speed advantage and he hits like a truck. Just my opinion when looking at the top guys of yesterday and comparing them to todays fighters.

Not much different really. Seems to me like it was the same **** as Floyd-Hatton. Why didn't Whitaker fight Chavez at 140? Whitaker could fight for a paper title stripped from Chavez, but not Chavez until he was at 147? Anyone know what the deal was, were they leaving it as long as they could to hype it, or was one ducking the other?

would'nt of made even the most slightest of difference, Whitaker always dominates Chavez at any weight

Yeah, that's what they say about Mayweather-Hatton, same **** like I said where the guy with the advantage dominates and everyone says it would've been the same at any weight.

Chavez-Whitaker was competed at a higher level than Pac-Mayweather could ever produce.

Both Whitaker and Chavez would have their way with Pac and Floyd.

Whitaker was always a very very small welterweight, and please dont even try to make out that the weight had anything to do with the fight, Chavez got schooled simply as that,

Well I may have to retract a comment I made about Chavez vs PAC. I totally forgot that PAC weakness and KO losses were by body shots so I'd still give him a body shot's chance of winning. Just my personal take. I just wonder if prime PAC chances of winning a decision against an undefeated Chavez is similar to Marquez's chances against PAC in their third fight.

I can't give Pac a chance out of a hundred fights with Chavez. Pacquiao's style is basically taylor made for Julio Cesar Chavez. I mean Marquez went toe to toe with Manny thrice and gave him hell, I just can't imagine what a prime Chavez would have done.

After watching the fight, what do you think Mayweather would have done against prime Chavez as well ?

    :thumbsup

The first half of the fight was a brilliant display of upperbody movement from both fighters...Quite possibly the greatest display of technical skill from both fighters in one fight from the 90's.

I personally think it would be more competitive at 135lbs...It would look like the first half of their fight for all 12 rounds IMO. Pea would still beat him in the end...His style is just all wrong for Julio...and pretty much the vast majority of fighters around those divisions.

I don't think there's been a single fight with a better display of fight science since Chavez-Whitaker.

The Pac-Marquez fights look amatuerish by comparison.

IMO Marquez-Barrera is the best display of technical skill in a fight since Whitaker-Chavez, but not quite up there with that fight IMO.
