Quarry would be foolish to say the shot wasn't any good- it clearly made him lose his equilibrium.

I would say the fight was competitive, but clear.

3-3 is a ridiculous score for that fight which was my original point... It could have EASILY been 6-0 for Quarry.

To be fair, Chuvalo won quite a few fights with that approach.

The only controversy in this fight is whether or not Quarry was up at "10". I don't know, but I have little sympathy for any fighter who waits until the count reaches 9 1/2 to get up.
(And if Zack Clayton was "known" to be crooked I have even less sympathy for Quarry's foolishness.)

Whether Quarry was ahead on points, and by how far, is really beside the point and neither adds to nor lessens the controversy.

The rumblings around the ring after the fight that night, was that Jerry had
quite a few beers before the fight.

Not sure if anyone checked the bar tab at Patsy's.

Would Quarry be that stupid just before an important fight?

    I think it's a possibility.
The Quarry clan were of the traditional "Fighting Irish" (-American) brand.
Drinking and fighting and fighting and drinking, in no particular order.

I never claimed to know why he didn't get up though. All I'm saying is that he didn't. You don't wait until the referee says "ten" to get up from the canvas. Simple.

Yes,,,,,,,Irish Jerry Quarry in New York, at Madison Square Garden, NYC, and Patsy's a big Irish bar right across the street.

What do you think he did each night, go to the hotel room and
    watch Walter Cronkite.
