Just watched Chuvalo-Quarry... B.S. Stoppage?

i am surprised jerry lasted that long he was on rubbery legs from the 3 round on:think

 

he missed the count because he got shaken by that left hook,give chuvalo just a lil credit

Again I said nothing about why he didn't get up. But the answer to the thread's question is that the stoppage was legitimate, as Quarry didn't get up in time.

Dick Young,
Sportswriter from The New York Daily News,
stated that Jerry Quarry looked 'paunchy' entering the fight.
Spending too much time with 'Schaeffer six-packs' than in the gym.

Also, the fact that he didn't think much of George Chuvalo.
After comparing his complete druthering of Buster Mathis, to George getting
beat every which way by Big Buster.
Both fights at MSG, NYC in 1969.

also, Dick Young wrote, that if Mr. Quarry hits you with his best 'Sunday Punch', and
you're still in front of him, he stops working in the ring.

 

well chuvalo would take his best shot no doubt,i remember watching chuvalo fight patterson.hell with his sunday punch patterson couldn't make george blink.its got to shake a fighter confidence when another guy can take your best punch and walk through it
you did kno that another guy who didn't think much of chuvalo had signed a contract to fight him,but was later found dead in las vegas of coarse that was sonny liston

That fight was a 'bad match-up'' for Irish Jerry.
George ain't going down for nobody.

You coud see Jerry start to whither earlier and earlier as each round ended.

In Jerry's next fight, he nearly got knocked out by one Rufus 'Big Boy' Brassell in the 1st round.

Hey,,how about a George Chuvalo vs. Mac Foster bout up in Moncton, N.B, in 1970?

 

i would have turned up for that fight,foster could bang.i wish the chuvalo sha vers fight had of materialize,do you think earnie could have lasted for 10 rounds???

NOPE,,,,,,,,,,,
If you follow that facts and boxers patterns.
Could see Earnie throwing bombs for 5 Rounds, hitting George with everything,
making you wonder what the hell was holding him up.
Then George turning it around in 6-7, before a 8th round rally from Earnie
swings the tide.
George stops and exhausted Shavers late in the 9th.

Fight of the Year 1972.

 

Chuvalo could hit hard, had an iron jaw, and didn't run away, and tough to run away from him. Jerry got dropped for he count. End of story. Also why I think Foreman would have done the same to Quarry, who was never all that hard to hit, despite what some say.

Only time I saw George hurt was in the Foreman fight.

Ali could have brought a sledge-hammer into the ring with him, and wouldn't have hurt George.

 

you just said that he was hurt In the foreman fight

Also he did get badly hurt by Ron Lyle in their fight, and young on occasion.

I meant to say the only time I saw George Chuvalo hurt, in the fights I saw him in, was the Foreman fight.

I didn't see him in with Ron Lyle or Oscar Bonavena.
