    klompton,

    You did do your homework.
We could label George as a durable tough guy, who sometimes over-achieved, despite his limited boxing skills.
A fighter who gave 'no-quarter', and never quit in the ring.
Though not a defensive wizard, he had an incredible chin, as proven in his record.
Just where could you find George Chuvalo between 1958 and 1972,
somewhere in the Top 20 Heavyweights in the World.

this guy has a problem, anyone knows chuvalo's chin is maybe best of all the heavies.you and are chatting about times and fights gone by hes out to belittle someone, that bothers me.he sounds like a guy that was kicked off this forum sometime ago at least he has all the same views.he doesn't use the dirty language though.but thats what that guy off this site.
if i'm not impressed with a fighter as much as he seems to be i simply move on to another thread, this guy doesn't have much else to do i guess.very lil class indeed

Once again, someone doesnt agree with you and you start in about how they are someone who was kicked off this forum (I was never kicked off this forum and used to write for this website 10 years ago, before anyone even knew it existed). Sounds like someone just cant accept that people might not think as highly of Chuvalo as you. I see you havent taken up the challenge of explaining where all of these great wins are that Chuvalo had to garner his extended stay in some peoples top HW rankings. In fact, what would you consider his greatest win Jake? Would it be Quarry? Jones? Ramos? Because frankly those are his biggest wins and if those are a guys biggest wins it doesnt bode well for an argument for greatness. But Im sure you are one of those who thinks Chuvalo's greatest victories actually came in his losses. The moral victory of being able to say you shared the ring with a legitimately great fighter... pretty tenuos hold. In fact it sounds a lot like trying to hold onto great fighters coat tails to me.

George C. might be a tad light in the quality win department.
But, he sure has a long list of quality opponent fights.
Despite his losses, he still was in the Top Ten for several years.
In 1969, The Ring Magazine called him the 'fighter you didn't want to fight, but had to if you wanted to go somewhere'.

I have a job thanks, I dont need to solicit anyone for one.

As for the site, when I wrote for it this site catered almost exclusively to Eastern European fighters (hence the title east side boxing). I stopped writing for them when I wrote an article discussing Wladimir Klitchkos loss to Ross Purrity. That fight had recently been described by Max Kellerman on ESPN and from his description it was obvious he had never seen it (it had never been shown in the United States at that point). The guy who was the editor at that point didnt want to print it because they were "promoting" eastern european fighters and an article discussing a loss would make Wlad look bad.

Ill be waiting for that detailed report on Chuvalos biggest wins and all those victories against nobodies that somehow kept him in the ratings and enhanced his legendary status.

    klompton,

You would have to say Chuvalo's come-from-behind Knock-out win over
Doug Jones bought him 2 years in the Top 5. (1964/1965)
Sometimes, a loss can bring you status too.
The decision loss to Floyd Patterson only enhanced his reputation.
And both 15-round decision losses to Ernie Terrell and Muhammad Ali cemented his reputation, and garnered him Top 10 status for another 3 years. (1966/1967/1968).
In his most important career saving fight, he won, as the knock-out (maybe a little tainted)
over Jerry Quarry bought him another 2 years in the Top 5. (1969/1970)
7-years in the Top 10, with several of them in the Top 5,,,,,,'ain't too shabby'
for a short-armed brawler with limited skills.

Can't understand why the editor wouldn't publish your article as you were the only ****er who knew the site existed ....... therefore only you would have read it! :bbb

ONE WIN BUYS A THREE YEAR PASS IN THE RANKINGS???? :huhThe guy beat Doug Jones in 1964 (which I admitted was a legit top ten win) and then losses to every top ten fighter he faces for the next FOUR years, AND Corletti who was not a top 10 guy) yet somehow stays in the rankings simply because he stays busy beating a bunch of tomato cans. You say that his losses to Terrell and Ali cemented his legacy, which I agree for different reasons, and secured his place in the rankings. Out of thirty rounds THIRTY George managed to win TWO. I agree that pretty much sums up Chuvalos legacy but somehow his fans think that by simply showing up his legacy was somehow better. Once again, I compare him to David Tua who simply showed up against Lewis and marched forward pretending to be aggressive but never taking chances. You could MAYBE give Tua one round, maybe. I dont think anyone would argue that fight somehow enhanced his standing or legacy and yet Chuvalo somehow gets a pass. In fact, Tua has some wins that one could argue are better than anything Chuvalo ever came up with. For a while he was actually consistently beating top ten contenders, something Chuvalo never did. But hey, every four years he beat a ranked HW so he should get a pass right? Hell even his win over Jones came after right after Jones had lost an upset decision to Billy Danials who was a late sub, although Id have to go back and see if that bumped him.

Here we go. Big tough guy keyboard warrior. Just answer the question in regards to actual boxing and stop making personal attacks on people and your credibility might raise a tad higher than Chuvalos when he said he was robbed against all those great fighters he fought.
