I am just trying to give my opinion about a young boxer. Orlandito Del Valle showed up in excellent physical condition. It's easy to see the kid is dedicated. That is in the only reason he was able too take so much punishment. But he didn't bring any tools. THE KID NEEDS A TRAINER!! And I am not saying a different trainer will make him a star. But it will give him a chance.

Puerto Rico has a long boxing history. It kills me to see a pro boxer come to the ring looking like an amateur. The kid couldn't throw a proper straight punch!! Slow and pushing the hands rather that punching. It was painful to watch. Painful because I see he has the heart and dedication. But he didn't know what to do. If somebody close to Orlandito read this, please, tell him he needs a good trainer.

Agree completely. The right especially had nothing on it at all.

The kid should not be disheartened by that fight...he put up a good effort.

Yeh, the pushing straight hands were tough to watch....maybe it wouldn't have been so out of place if the HBO crew hadn't talked him up big right before hand.

In fairness to him though, I get why his management wanted Darchinyan, as Darchinyan just lost to a Japanese prospect in Japan at 118 and would be coming up and even though he's on the decline he's still one of the most recognizable names in the lower divisions. But a focused Vic is going to be a tough guy for almost anybody. He's strong, awkward as hell, has a bag full of tricks, is more than willing to get dirty, and perhaps most importantly has been using his full arsenal at the highest level for a long time. Like I said, I get why they selected evil Vic, but he's a guy that if you're miscalculating on (miscalculating where Vic is at in his decline and miscalculating where you're prospect is at)the situation it could be disasterous.

I think a new trainer would be able to help De Valle. There's natural talent there to work with.

I don't mean to take your thread on a different tangent, but I didn't think my question warranted its own thread.

As a fan of PR boxing, how are PR boxing fans feeling about Luis Cruz right now? I know quite a few posters were hopeful about him last year, but he's since lost to Juan Carlos Burgos(no shame there, I think Burgos is quite good) and then the inexperienced but talented Jose Felix Jr. Are PR fans hopeful for him? Do you think he needs a new trainer?

I think it's a different situation overall, he has a solid foundation of skills, but something else seems to be missing. Then again, it could just be a case that when two good fighters meet, usually someone has to lose.

I'm not giving up on my boy Del Valle. He has a lot of potential that a lot of people are not seeing. He desperately needs a better trainer. Hook up with Pedro Diaz!!!

He should have his eye out to work with Felix Verdejo new olympian kid signed by Top Rank.

I agree with you though. He fits into the culture easily, the fighters have a work ethic compatible with his style. peanut butter and jelly.

Agreed on all accounts. As I said in that night's RBR, there was a time when a young prospect took on a wily, still tough veteran and a loss was considered a learning experience, almost something a fighter needed to go through in order to grow.

That is what I took away from that fight. The kid needs fundamental help, but the heart and fighter mentality are there.

Got pretty decent defense and chin. Vic was tagging him with some flush hard shots.
