Might be the most biased commentating I've ever seen from the HBO crew, except Merchant. Lampley is doing the usual "AND NOW TRINIDAD IS UNLOADING, FOUR HUGE LEFT HOOKS IN A ROW". Merchant responds, "All of those punches were blocked by Hopkins". Felix keeps throwing and missing with bombs and B Hop catches him clean over and over again. Literally not a single mention of a Hopkins shot in the whole round except for a passing "Hopkins tries to asnwer back with the right hand". George keeps talking about how B Hop is fighting the wrong fight when he's up 6-0 of 5-1 on any reasonable person's scorecard. Lederman (who I generally don't mind but has a bias for fighters who push the action IMO) scores the round to Trinidad.

I don't hate Lampley or George and think they generally added a lot of atmosphere. But oh boy, when they get it wrong they get it wrong in a big way. They have the same pattern every time their man is losing a fight. Call it like its closer than it is for 8 rounds until they finally start giving the other fighter respect in rounds 9-12. And of course, if the man getting waxed 11 rounds to none going into the 12th is a power puncher then George never fails to remind us that he's a dangerous 'wounded bear' or something.

Chavez-Taylor was another insanely biased broadcast from HBO.

Lampley suffers from frequent blindness during fights and often goes nuts over missed punches. This one was really bad, extremely pro-Taylor. During Hopkins-Trinidad, it was mostly Foreman who was really biased. At least Lampley was praising Hopkins and questioning Foreman's nonsense.

    :lol::lol::lol:

he loved to say that about punchers who were getting destroyed.

Big George's favorite things to talk about were:

"The referee is the most important man in the Ring tonight other than the fighters"

"Jim, I don't notice any sweat on fighter X he hasn't properly warmed up in the dressing room he should have a sheen of sweat on him and be warmed up more"

    :rofl

yeah, George was really annoying. Even when Trinidad was getting his azz whupped, Big George was still hanging from his nutz...like he had money on him or something.

Was watching Pac-Cotto last night and after Pac floored Cotto in the 3rd round Lampley kept saying some weird stuff about Cotto trying to "make it a 9-9 round" Must have said it at least 5 times during the rest of the round. Never heard that before or since.

Neither Lampley or Foreman is known for their objectivity. Even a guy like Kellerman seems to have lost a bit of objectivity since coming to HBO.

They kept talking about 9-9 during Martinez-Williams 1.

How hard is it to realize that there is no 9-9 round without a point deduction for fouls? 10 point must system. You don't even a round in which you get dropped by coming back strong and then the judges score it 9-9 to make it even. It'd be 10-10.

"The referee's speech didn't impress me at all"

Lampley: What are the signs he's slowing down, George?
Foreman: Hopkins went to his corner and laid his legs flat out. Trinidad is still sitting in a sitting position

Big George was horrible on that broadcast it was almost like he had something against Hopkins. He never gave him any credit. Maybe he had money on Tito who knows? Lampley can be equally as bad to.

I could be mistaken, but I'm fairly certain Foreman and Hopkins weren't the biggest fans of one another. I *think* Hopkins once made a comment about "how can you listen to anyone who names all of his sons 'George'" - but I could be confusing him with someone else.

Regardless, Hopkins is one of my favorite boxers of all-time,, and Foreman is one of my favorite commentators of all-time.

Brings to mind HBO's woeful commentating of Pacquaio v Bradley

"BIG RIGHT HAND BY PACQUAIO" (Missed, falls short)

"ANOTHER LEFT HAND BY PACQUAIO!" (Brushed the shoulder)

    Rinse, repeat
