Real good fight, don't see that in the heavyweights anymore. However the aftermath leaves a little bitter taste in the mouth as Lennox promised a rematch and then retired in a hurry. Now he says things like Vitali needs him because he's the last great heavyweight.Hmmmm.
Over, because the cut may have gotten worse, yes. But, if there were never a cut, Vitali would have eventually KO Lewis. Lewis luckily escaped that second round, and Vitali is known for closing out his opponents in the later rounds. If you think Lennox would have KO'd Vitali eventually, I don't see the proof you are right. No one has ever hurt Vitali, or put him down once ever, but Lennox has been KO'd bigtime. I think Lennox would even tell you personally he couldn't KO Vitali ever. That is probably why he didn't rematch for all that money. Who would want to fight someone dangerous 12 rounds, when you already know you can't KO him?
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!! atsch Lewis in that condition??? Lewis had plenty of preparation time!1 Vitaly only had two weeks! I'm sick of this awful point Lewis wasn't ready, i suppose he wasn't ready either when Rahman and Mc Call spanked him!
If Vitali was as good a fighter as Lewis he wouldn't get TKOd or KOd. But he's not. Not even CLOSE. He would get stopped 100 out of 100. He is a clumsy giraffe in comparison who would be beaten to the punch and overwhelmed prime for prime. If Lewis had been in the same shape as when he fought Tyson, they would have had to visit the parking lot to find Vitali's skull as it would have left his shoulders and landed in Row 8, Section A.
All bull**** speculation aside... we really needed that f---ing rematch!!! Damm!!! I'm still pissed! lol
Then you tell me smart guy, why did Lennox retire instead of fight one more for ol' times sake for all that money, and for a fight the entire world wanted to see? If Lennox is like you say he is, and would have done, you tell me? He got hurt bad by Vitali in the 2nd round, and Lennox had to hold on for dear life. Lennox landed some major shots and uppercuts, and it didn't do a thing to Vitali's chin. Vitali's never been down once in his entire career, that's has to mean something. Now, I know you like a fighter, and you want your hero to be what you hope him to be. But, I am just saying what I saw. If Lennox is what you say he is, he could of and should have fought a rematch. Every other great in the past would have done it. Can you imagine if Frazier had done what Lennox did, and not give Ali a rematch?
They guy was 37 year old champ.... If he wanted to retire, that is up to him...... a challenger doesn't have the right to a rematch unless the champ decides so. And the cut did happen.... infact several cuts happned, Vitali had a chance in the 2nd but didn't take it.... Then Lennox started to get into the fight and by the last round Vitali was holding on to Lennox for dear life...even though he must of known he had limited time because of the cut
well said! If Lewis would have stopped VK 100 out of 100 why not do it all again for all the money? Because VK, after two weeks training, severely rattled a quite well prepared Lewis and scared him. I think vK would have taken Lewis in a rematch and that Lewis, as a good champion and a clever boxer retired when the going was good.If anyone else has a better explanation i would love to hear why Lewis rejected all that money!
How old is Vitali now? Look at what Vitali does to his opponents at this age, even after 4 years out, and no tune ups, look at what he did to Sam Peter. I think Lennox was very lucky and fortunate to beat Vitali. No cuts on Vitali, and Lennox is gone in the later rounds. I might be wrong, but my gut feeling is Lennox bowed out because he didn't want a real war to deal with.
Rejected all that money when lewis is a multi millionaire he was so desperate for a few million.
