Yep, prety much. Lewis's stamina cleary wasn't there so he had to go to plan B and just bull his way towards Vitali with his strength and heavy powerpunches. Looked like it was working prety wll but who knows what wouldn't hapened if that fight would have gone on? :conf Guess we'll never know.
so why is that arguement any worse than slagging lewis of for retiring when he beat vitali and had wanted to retire years before.:hi:
He obviously felt ready to fight VK if he accepted the fight!!! Fact VK 2 weeks training give him plenty of trouble! Doesn't matter who Lewis was training for he should have been prepared!! Remember Rahman, McCall?? ANYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT BOXING SHOULD KNOW NEVER TO UNDERESTIMATE THE OPPONENT!
Vitali did not have just two weeks training he had a full training camp because he was going to fight on Lewis's undercard.
Vitlai won the event. Lewis won the fight on a doctor's stoppage on a cut. The fans needed a re-match. Vitali was game. He even fought Kirk Johnson to force a fight with Lewis. Then when Lewis was offered 20,000,000.00!!!! to take the re-match or be stripped of his belt, he retired. Everyone knows Lewis felt he would not be as lucky in the re-match.
I hope you realize that Vitali was ahead on all 3 score cards and Lewis was appearing to gas out towards the middle rounds. If not for that cut I think Vitali would have won that fight by either late round stoppage or clear UD 12. I am a big Lewis fan but I dont think on that night at 256 pounds he could have hung with Vitali for 12 rounds.
Because Lewis didn't have a bad injury before, during or after the fight!! Thats why! Vk simply give him hell, unlike the Byrd fight :hi:
Dude, I can't be arsed. Only dumb asses would need help discerning the answers. You must not have much of a grasp of incentive, wealth, age, legacy, or the extent of the remuneration received in the recent era (in many areas of endeavor) and its affect upon one's motivation. For elaboration you will just have to wait until I see something in your posts that makes me give a **** or want to reiterate things said previously. But, your posts are looking so ****ing clueless that it could be a while. I really can only conclude you must be a crap athlete that can't tell the difference between the skilled and talented vis-a-vis a big and merely decent fighter. The other morons posting (similarly to you) are even more pathetic so it really seems it would be better to let fools live and learn. Time will be your teacher. Can't mentor everyone. ESB is flooded with the ignorant. The anklebiters, old women, and inexperienced kids are just too numerous to engage. Really. What I said .. stands. There is nothing to parse. "If Vitali was as good a fighter as Lewis he wouldn't get TKOd or KOd. But he's not. Not even CLOSE. He would get stopped 100 out of 100. He is a clumsy giraffe in comparison who would be beaten to the punch and overwhelmed prime for prime. If Lewis had been in the same shape as when he fought Tyson, they would have had to visit the parking lot to find Vitali's skull as it would have left his shoulders and landed in Row 8, Section A."
Ha ha :rofl Quoting Larry Mechant to back up your arguement. $20 Mill was standard pay for Lennox at that time.... why should a 38 year old champ give a challenger a rematch ??
great response:roll:, also note one of vitali victims danny williams managed to do what vitali couldn't and carry on fighting and beat a guy by ko with only one arm.:hi:
I dont think Lewis should have ever fought passed 240 pounds, it may not have mattered but its just a thought I had. He destroyed Rudduck and Bruno at 227 - 229 and looked pretty fast at 230 - 235 as well. He was still great at 247 - 255 but I think he was just a hair quicker and sharper at 240 lbs.
