Lewis won, his punch opened the cut, but he obviously used his rasta head to open it more. Rematch would have clarified things. Prime Lewis stops Vitaly late, but Lewis knew Klitschko was motivated enough to win a rematch. Without the cut, the beating of the first 3-4 rounds would have contiuned by Vitaly.

The out of shape, out of prime LL won against an in shape, prime Vitali.
They were pretty even 57-57 on my card, but Vitali had a cut caused by a punch .LL showed that he had the better skills, he just did not have the conditioning.

That is the precisely the reason why there was no real need for a rematch. The fight showed the difference between an ATG heavyweight and a not ATG heavyweight.

I just want to know why Lennox said that he would rematch Vitali and also fight Wladimir immediately after the fight, then changed his mind and retired? No one knows, but in my opinion, he knows he dodged a bullet in that fight. He didn't think that Vitali would show any heart and that he would fold after the first big punch. When that didn't happen, Lennox freaked. Go back and watch the Ray Mercer fight, same thing. When Lennox finally landed his monster right on Mercer, and Mercer just shook his head, Lennox freaked and had a terrible fight (which I think was a draw).

That uppercut was the hardest punch I've ever seen anyone take and not go down.

LL proved in an out of shape and out of prime version that he can beat Vitali.

He could not motivate himself for a rematch anymore, so instead of showing up out of shape again he retired.Simple as that.

Great fight? Maybe physically, with Lewis being 250+ and Vitali almost 250 as well.

Summary: The champion is old and out of shape, the pretender have him in trouble but cannot finish him. After few (not that active) rounds champion connects with some good shots, but he can't KO his rival either. They are both gasping up for air anyway and the fight is mercifully stopped before any of them has stroke.

After the fight the champion retires and does not give any credit to his opponent, while the pretendent feels he is the winner (if only moral winner) and, until recently, this loss seems to be his biggest achievement. He keeps challenging old champion and trying to get him from retirement, probably hoping to get another "emeritus" title this way ;-)

Lewis was what? 256 or so for that fight? In his prime Lewis was what? 247 to 250? How can anyone say that at 256 Lewis was fat and out of shape? Lewis comes in 6 pounds heavier than before and he's fat and out of shape? My God, Wlad must have been obese for the Ray Austin fight because he came in 246 which was six pounds heavier than his last fight. Damn, these heavy weights really let themselves go between fights.

Once Lewis feels like the fighter is just as good or better technically ; he resorts to brute strength to blast his opponent. After using brute strength as a tactic , he opened a bunch of cuts on Vitali's face. I feel if the fight went on any further, Lewis would have went back to technique.

Lewis would step to his right and fire right hands at Vitali and ko'd him wobbly. Vitali would have had a hard time seeing anythin on his right side in a few more rounds. Which would more than likely get him hit with clean flush shots that he would not see coming.

    Lewis whipped his ass.

Look at the pics. Vitali had cuts on his eye, on his cheek, and a busted mouth. Lewis was pretty much unscathed. Not even any swelling.

Anyone sayig otherwise is just rewriting history.

Cut or no, Lewis could not miss with the right hand when the fight was stopped. It was only a matter of time before he chopped vitali down.

Why don't you watch the fight instead of comparing the numbers? If you just get 5 pounds of fat, the weight difference will be the same as if you lost 15 pounds of muscles and gain 20 pounds of fat... but your performance won't be the same. Just looking at Lewis you can guess which option was more probable.

  13. AGAIN....... If Vitali had so muh more in the tank..... then WHY did he spend the last round hanging on the Lewis all round.... When he obviously knew he only had limited time left in the ring because of the cuts

He then stumbled into his corner.... not realising that his corner had Butterflied stiched his face up and that the fight had been stopped for a good 30 seconds.... He then got brave and ran around the ring shouting .... NO, NO, NO :rofl

The way he sat on his stool AFTER the bell means nothing, Lewis was the one throwing punches at the bell BEFORE it rung for the end of rd 6, Vitali was holding on for dear life at that point after stumbling forward desparatley grabbing Lewis`s waist and holding on without defending himself or throwing back in the last 20 seconds or so after being stunned with a shot to his temple. Vitali was gasping and had a frozen, "where am i?" look on his face before drunkenly weaving a path to his corner after the bell. The ref had a good look at him from the point Lewis landed the uppercut at the bell and as he walked back to his corner, he could see that he wasnt defending himself and thats when he asked the doctor to look at the damage.

Lewis was at his heaviest ever and was 2 months off his 38th birthday versus a prime 31 year old Vitali Klitschko who is still champ 6 yrs later, it all makes Lewis`s legacy stronger and more impressive.
