A few points: Mabuza is HUGE.... i mean this guy towered over Holt. He has a tight defense.. keeps his arms up in a Clottey like shell Holt caught him with a monster right hand... this was clean, on the chin and as hard as Holt can hit and Mabuza didn't even flinch His punches are hard and he throws plenty of them Having said this, Mabuza seems to have as much boxing technique as Ricardo Mayorga... he flails away with his punches and a counter puncher may take him apart. A lot of his losses come at the start of his career when he was facing undefeated fighters whilst he was still green
Zab has been pretty aggressive throughout his career but counterpunching isn't new to him. Currently I've noticed that he's just fighting smarter using the jab more.
Zab's been aggressive with guys that he can out-quick... at 140 he's going to have a harder time doing that (and with his age). He was also aggressive because he had terrible game plans in the past imo. Yes, counterpunching isn't "new" to him, but he's going to be forced to rely on it more and more now. Zab is using his jab more, but I tend to agree with Kellerman and wish that he would commit to it more. He still throws it as more of a range finder...
I agree that he needs to throw his jab with more authority. I also agree that he needs to rely on his counterpunching more. Zab has been the kind of fighter to rely usually on natural abilities but it's interesting to see how he does while he's older. I'll watch his next fight.
