Power comes from hand speed with footwork.

Joe Louis said, "when I was young, the opening appeared and I hit them. When I got old, the opening appeared, I said hit them, and my fist didn't move."

He was an old man of 37...37 is an old man.(check the reflex sport of Tennis, where you can not pick and chose opponents..35 is like being Holy. Most of the greats are gone at age 32/33.)
Today the old fighters fight other old fighters, not fighters in their prime...so everyone gets fooled into thinking an old fighter is still in his prime.
Shane vs Catto was a very good fight, but Shane was no longer prime.....

Joe Louis said, even in his prime Marciano might have beaten him, because he did not like being pressured like that.

Third and last thing, this shell of an old man, makes all the "Bum of the Month" club look much better, as they were. And Joe was much better than 60%.... 85% more than likely IMO. But a few % is what separates a good contender from a Champ.
Like the speed of hand of a young Clay vs the speed of an Ali after Frazier 1.

Joe cleaned out the heavy division on his way up....A Joe Louis of 37 might well have beaten his Bum of the Month club, but it would have been immensely harder, they would have been considered better fights.

Thank you for the link to You Tube, I'd never seen the Kid Mathews fight.

What I'd also never seen before too was the ducking completely under the heavy bag that the Rock was doing.
