Leading to the fight, i can clearly see why Naz lost.

He simply wasnt prepared enough to fight a world class Barerra. He was more focus about the fight being in USA, than the fight itself.

Yea he lost before the fight started, no way took it seriously, lost his love for boxing

It irritates me when people say Naz was in his prime when he fought Barrera

I think even if he was prime he would still probably lose to barrera, allthough it was clear his heart wasnt in it anymore.

Please stop the bull****... Naz got himself in the best possible shape for Barrera & was 2nd best on the night.

I personally do think that Naz peaked too early, he was better when his reflexes were A+ like vs Steve Robinson way back in 1995 & by the time he fought Barrera in 2001 he relied too much on his power, his reflexes had diminished.... BUT... please dont make out Hamed was in anything less han the best condition he could be at that stage because its an insult to how well Barrera performed in that fight.... which is 1 of my fav performances of recent years & I actually dont like Barrera, I always root against him.

It's a brilliant, brilliant documentary, really gives you a peek into the mind of a fighter. Fragile confidence and all that.

Plus the scene where he's getting his hair cut is hysterical.

my boy naz was very under prepared for that fight. would've made for a great rematch had they fought. but barerra had naz's number that night. a loser, more focused naz makes it a very interesting fight though.

Even during the fight he ignored his trainers advice and just looked for that one punch..
In addition to not preparing, Barrera also was slaving away figuring naseem out and enhanced his style to more pure boxing then slugger and came prepared

I have no doubt a Naseem focused and thinking straight would have beaten Barrera in a rematch

You guys are living on planet pluto, seriously.

He underperformed in his biggest fight, Barrera always performed in his biggest fights in his prime, Junior Jones aside.

Barrera would probably stop Naz in a rematch, he was slapping him around in those last 2 rds & those were rds that Naz knew he needed badly.

    Lets be honest.

Naz was way past the point of believing his own hype by the time he fought Barrera. He was always rather fond of talking about his top-notch reflexes and power and I doubt it ever occurred to him that you need more than that at the very top. I also doubt he would have improved in a rematch, Barrera was just 'better' and was too well-schooled for someone as poorly disciplined as Naz. He was still great to watch though and brought many fans to the sport and the lower divisions.

Hamed was better in the mid 90s, but still had issues with balance and defense that I think a great fighter like MAB would take advantage of and win. These weaknesses were shown against guys like Alicea and especially Medina, who was hitting him pretty frequently with right hands. I don't see that Hamed beating Barrera either.

Wasn't Hamed the huge favorite in this fight ? What now he wasn't in his prime ? Come on now ! Barrera exposed all of his flaws ..

Hamed had pretty much stopped training like a professional athlete by the time he fought Kevin Kelley.

So many excuses, it's 10 years ago now, let it go. Naz lost to Barrera because Barrera is better. MAB beats Naz at any point in his career. It was the first time Hamed stepped up to a top opponent and he lost bad, he just isn't a great fighter. He's powerful and exciting and flashy, but not great. He losses to JMM, Morales, Mayweather and Pac at anypoint in his career. Give it up.

Naz at his peak could have KO'd that MAB.
