I think you should watch the documentary. I've already said that MAB beats any version of Nas, but you really need to see just how Nas neglected his training. It's like a 'how not to' guide in becoming an ATG, regardless of how much you rate/like Nas or not. A really good watch from a boxing fans point of view.
Naseem Hamed was a very lazy trainer for a very long part of his career. His "serious" fans know this for a fact. It's funny how only when he was embarrassed by MAB did his laziness become part of the discussion.
just a shame it gives the haters and ignorant muppets ammo to underrate Naz because a none prime version lost to peak MAB on pts.
So don't watch it, I don't care either way. Still a good watch for young, up and coming fighters in how not to train when you get to the top, regardless of the opposition. I would really like to see a doc on MAB training like an animal for this fight. It wouldn't be half as entertaining, but far more educational from a boxing point of view.
Just admit that hamed was a lazy trainer for a long time as ALL of his fans know, and you'll feel much better about everything in general. And btw,if you can disprove ANYTHING that I've written on the subject,I'll be more than happy to admit that I'm wrong. This thread is just another one of those monthly make excuses for hamed thread that permeates the general on esb.
'Lazy' is a subjective term. Lazy to me is spending all day in bed because I can't be arsed to get up. Lazy to pro boxers may be 3 rounds sparring instead of 6, or 50 pull-ups instead of 100. The funny thing about Nas is it didn't seem to occur to him that he wasn't being lazy. He thought going through the motions in training, sparring etc was enough against someone of Barrera's calibre, mainly because he believed he was on that level himself. Like I said, don't watch the documentary, I couldn't give a hoot either way. If you want to turn this into a MAB v Nas thread that's up to you. It's still an insight into how top fighters get 'lazy' when they think they've reached the top. Oh, just in case my point wasn't being made, I have already conceded that Barrera was by far the superior fighter, regardless of whatever version of Nas turned up. Watch the doc and you might educate yourself a little.
2 questions: 1.Are you a hamed fan? 2.Whether or not you are, will you admit that hamed was considered a lazy trainer for years before the Mab fight? Isn't the documentary about hamed's prep for the Mab fight? If it is,then isn't the whole thread is a MAB v hamed thread?Or just another excuse thread 4 hamed?
I dont think Pac or JMM would have done a better job than Barrera at that stage (2001)... Barrera & Morales were the 2 top dogs at that time, they were better than Pac or JMM then, its just they wore out quicker because the were facing the elite fighters from early on (specifically each other), thats why Pac & JMM outlasted them.... not saying Naz beats Pac or JMM then but he would have a far better chance than vs Erik or Marco.
Naz inspired this confident fighter fighter... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iemq0mpxA0s&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
1) I was a Hamed fan, back in the day. I was also a fan of Eubank, Benn, Lewis, etc but we didn't have the means to conveniently watch international fights between non-British fighters back then. 2) Hamed was considered a very lazy trainer at the time, but like I said, people have different versions of what lazy means. My version of lazy is unthinkable to professional athletes, ie spending all day in bed. I've never actually seen a boxer on film getting worked up about goatksin boxing gloves, swimming pools, haircuts etc when they should obviously be more concerned about sparring, roadwork, etc. You hear things about boxers getting lazy, but it's the first time I've seen it documented. 3) The whole documentary is solely about Hamed's preparation for the Barrera fight. 4) I couldn't give a **** what the thread turned into. The topic was the documentary itself and I found it very enlightening. If people want to turn it into a MAB v Nas thread then they can, but my input is to highlight a really good documentary which probably started as an ego project for Nas, but turned into an insight as to how top athletes get 'comfortable'. If I really wanted to be a dickhead about MAB v Nas, I could go on about how Nas was spending hours getting a haircut while Barrera was beasting himself in the gym, but Nas STILL managed to go 12 rounds with an ATG. . . but I won't.
It doesn't matter. This is yet just another excuse thread for hamed. There wasn't a documentary made about how hamed got comfy BEFORE the MAB fight-obviously when he suffered his 1st lost. And btw, several fighters went the distance with ATG MAB.
