No, this Marquez is not a prime Marquez. No wars are required for a fighter to lose a step.

So your admitting Marquez is not prime now, correct?

:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl "the less talented JMM!":nut

Lets get real here.....JMM handily beat MAB in the type of fashion that everyone thought Pac would beat MAB.

Marquez playin the role of the challenger pushed the fight and beat MAB by punishing him.

MAB pretty much had the same gameplan against both JMM and Pac, which was fight while moving back and lateral, and throw out his jab both to lead and off the counter.
.....both Marquez and Pac beat MAB clearly, the only difference was that Marquez was able to punish MAB more because against Pac, MAB was'nt willing to exchange for any prolonged periods, probably as a result of having already been beatdown by Pac three years earlier and unwilling to take any chances and instead chosing to fight a survival fight.

Even the tides in both fights were the same.....MAB was competitive early in both fights but folded in the second half in both.

If anything, JMM was a little bit better than Pac against MAB in that JMM had the burst of energy and attacked in turn forcing MAB to have to plant his feet and return fire in various instances in the fight.

....I did'nt see that same fire from Pac. Pac looked to me to be content to just let the fight ride off to its conclusion.
Pac sure as hell better show alot more fire vs JMM, or he's not only going to get schooled, he's going to get KTFO!

Being in wars aint nothing to with it. No wonder I only post on the classic forum all the time, as when you come in here people simply don't know what they are talking about.

Being past your prime means showing signs of decline in areas you were previously good at while at the top of your game, even if your not in wars. Marquez has clearly shown his boxing ability wasn't quite what it was 2-4 years ago. He's getting older, and taking more punches. The way he has been fighting recently has not been typical Marquez. He can't quite do it the same way he use to.

Good post. The only somewhat convincing counter arguement Ive heard to this is that he is trying to up his marketability, but I dont buy it for a second. As you said, he is no longer on the balls of his feet, moving as he did. He is still effective, but not what he was.

Agreed. So what the hell do you want to see the fight for, other than improving Pacs legacy? Wouldnt you want to see him fight someone else?

I agree with this also. The Pac who beat Morrales in the 3rd fight was the best Ive seen (and yes I realize that the man in front of him had something to do with that).

On the physical level, he still is peaking, but once a fighter loses hunger, its a matter of time.

I'm not trying to convince everyone that Marquez is now a shell of what he once was a few years ago. I'm not saying he's past him prime by a considerable distance, thus calling for his retirement.

Still a damn fine fighter, but he's going downhill. He was once a razor sharp counter-puncher who moved in and out range extremely well. I also don't think he's as fast.

I talk to a lot of Mexicans Face to face and most of them already conceed that Nobody among the Mexican can beat Pac. I mentioned Soto, JMM & Juan Diaz but still Nobody picks against Pac. That's how Pac was being respected now in Mexico.

I would heavily favor Pacquiao now as well. Had this been a few years back, I would call it a 50/50 fight.

Pacquiao would be wise to say away from Guzman. Physically bigger, with decent power and very fast hands. Guzman also possess very good ring generalship.

Not a walkover for Guzman, but he's probably stronger at the weight. He's also more unorthodox than Morales, Barrera, and Marquez. A whole new style for Pacman to show his metal against.

I would have Paquiao a 65-35 favorite a few years back and a 80-20 favorite now. If this fight gets pulled off i'm laying some money down cause i don't think the bookies will see it the way I do. Size is a big factor and Pacquiao is getting really big for 130.
