i just re-watched pac-marquez II. this was pac in his absolute prime...the fight that was supposed to cement his claim to supers****om. pac was a heavy favorite to win this one...at the time i was at a buddy's house drinking and hanging out and not really focusing on the fight. this time, i watched every round from beginning to end.

first of all i have to agree with the unofficial scores...i called it 8 rounds to 4 for marquez...with the kd for pac, i scored it 115-112 for marquez.

but more than that, i was really watching how pac handled the counterpunching style of marquez....when marquez chose force the action and to mix it up is where he got into trouble. pac's free swinging style and quick hands give him the advantage in exchanges....when marquez chose to keep pac at the end of his jab and box and counterpunch, he handled pac with ease...round after round, marquez was able to outmaneuver pac and out jab him and counter pac with flush shots to the head and body...and marquez body shots were pretty damn effective and slowed pac down a lot.

floyd, being the counterpuncher he is, the body puncher he is and having the variety of skills he brings to the table is on a different level from either one of these guys...that's why floyd handled marquez so easy...pac's speed and awkwardness might be a problem early in the fight...but as the fight progresses, pac slows down noticeably and his form breaks down. pac also lacks good defense and got hit flush by a lot of long punches that world-class fighter should be able to block or avoid. marquez was also able to easily slip most of pac's telegraphed combos....

after re-watching this fight, i can see why fmj believes he can and will ko pac. pac really lacks great boxing iq...he's too easy to hit and he wastes a lotta energy. pac's gonna have to walk through a hailstorm of abuse if he's gonna give this his best shot.

Pac had issues in that camp he was not focused anyway so you say Mayweather stops pac?

once again, Marquez is a very very different fighter than Floyd MAyweather. Floyd fights nothing like Marquez. JMM is an aggressive counterpuncher who takes a lot more risks than Floyd. Floyd is a defensive counterpuncher, never willing to trade shots like JMM does and has many less KOs than JMM.

They are very different fighters so comparing the two is silly. Also, anyone that knows boxing knows the logic of Figher A > Fighter B, Fighter B > Fighter C so Fighter A > C doesn't quite hold.

Taking JMM out of the equation, Pac TKO'd Cotto and DLH whilst Floyd had much more problems with them. Pacquiao KO'd Hatton in 2 whilst Floyd took 10 round. Borrowing your logic, If pacquiao beat these 3 mutual opponents MUCH MUCH more easily, then Pac >>>> Mayweather.

It doesn't quite work that way. The JMM - Pac fights are as irrelevant as the DLH, Cotto, Hatton fights. All different styles and we can't take anything from them.

how about pac-marquez 3 and 4? marquez beat him in both those fights too and lost a very controversial decision in 3...that most had him winning 8-4....did pac have issues in those camps too?

i said "that's why floyd believes he can ko pac"

marquez is just pac's kryptonite there have always been a fighter who was not in the same class as the other fighter but gave him problems and beat him.

Maidana for example gave mayweather problems in the first fight and castillio should of won against mayweather.

what you're pointing out is a FLAW in marquez style that explains why his fights with pac have been competitive. like i said, it was when marquez tried to force the action and mix it up with pac that pac had the most success....for example, the kd happened because marquez was actually pursuing pac and then chose to engage him in a toe to toe exchange...and pac dropped him....everytime marquez chose to fight with pac, pac had the advantage...it was when marquez boxed pac that he was able to land effectively and make pac miss. floyd will engage pac...but his primary weapon will be the jab and counterhook, straight right. floyd will work the body...in other words, floyd will utilize the most effective aspects of marquez style, plus additional skills such as his quickness and body punchng and technical ability...not to mention his reach advantage.

so you don't think it was because pac was having problems in his camp, huh?

what do you mean by pac's kryptonite?...you mean because marquez is a counterpuncher with good technical skills....i saw bradley give pac problems with the counterpunching style too.

i think it's more likely that pac and marquez are at the same level of ability pretty much...about the same as bradley. and it's reflected in pac's performances against those guys.

in most cases the triangle theory doesn't apply...i mean styles make fights, yes...but there is such a thing as different levels of abilty...and what i noticed was that pac and marquez fought a certain level of ability that is below that of fmj's.

    Bradley schooled jmm

Pac beat Bradley clearly both times

Marquez and mayweather don't fight the same marquez is a attacking counter puncher mayweather is a defensive

marquez is willing to take one to dish one out

pac won the second bradley fight....bradley started off well, had the lead after five rounds... later said he suffered from leg cramps....but the first pac-bradley fight was close enough it could have gone either way because bradley won the majority of the late rounds. pac also struggled with marquez...bradley and marquez was a pretty competitive fight. those three guys, marquez, bradley, pac are pretty much on the same level.

i agree with you that marquez is more willing to mix it up...and like i said, that's where he gets into trouble against pac...when marquez just focuses on boxing pac, he makes it a lot easier on himself.

my point is, if marquez can control pac with his boxing and technical skills, floyd will dominate pac. marquez struggles with pac when he tries to outslug pac...mayweather won't try and outslug him.

    One thing is likely

Pac v Floyd as a spectacle won't come anywhere close to any of the Pac v JMM fights

if you want spectacle, watch gatti-ward....marquez-vazquez.

fmj might win a relatively uneventful decision against pac. that fact in itself is pretty interesting for us real boxing fans.

but if you think it makes floyd boring just don't watch the fight.

People praise Marquez so much for his fights with Pacquiao. He never beat prime Pacquiao. The 3 fights that mattered Marquez never won.

Yet Morales actually managed to beat Pacquiao..... And people ignore it.
