In that case cotto should have just kept running to avoid any punches and to try finish the 12th. He was still trying to fight pac which was pretty pointless, no way he would win there. All hes doing is getting more punishment. He did avoid pac in one of the round, he could have done the same thing to finish the fight on the 12th.
Cotto didn't deserve to finish the fight...I will never second guess Kenny Bayless in the ring, probably the most capable referee in boxing. Cotto showed no evidence that he was in the ring to continue fighting, he simply was trying to survive...Manny made several gestures to Bayless before the stoppage as to say, "C'mon man, how much punishment are you going to let this guy take? He doesn't even want to fight any longer." It was a good stoppage and Manny deserved the TKO.
The question that needs to be asked is of the corner , this fight was over by the 6th , i really like cotto, he is a very proud man , but now looks broken , i dont think he should fight again , but a good corner would have pulled him out and saved him for another day .
Here we go with this **** again. And I guarantee you that ALL of these people that are saying that this was a bull**** Stoppage...Because a ref "robbed" Cotto of a Loss with DIGNITY!!!! Yet, these are the same people (If they are my age and older) who have NO problem of the Referee's stoppage of Meldrick Taylor in a fight that HE WAS WINNING!!!!!:-( STFU!!!!!
Nice reference!!:good But, both stoppages were justified. if you can't continue, the ref stops the fight...right? Regardless of time left on the clock...look at poor Jermain Taylor...knocked out in the 12th round of his last two fights. Poor dude!!
This is so bull****. Fight should have been stopped in 9th.. I bet you Kevin Johnson loved the last 3 rounds:nut
The ref would have been justified in stopping the fight anytime after the 9th. The reason it took till the 12th was because Cotto was still landing individual punches in Pac's flurry's, so Bayless must have thought there was always the off chance of a knockdown punch. That being said, Cotto landed some seriously monsterous punches to the body and head earlier on in the fight and Pac seemed to eat them right up, so on that basis, I think we could safely agree that it was a good job the fight didn't last any longer as there was pretty much no chance Pac was going to hit the canvas.
Totally agree. Cotto hadn't been down for a fair few rounds. If I was Cotto I'd be a little disappointed that I didn't last the distance when I know I could have
This is much more important. There was no reason for the fight to continue after the 9th, im sure Cotto wanted the fight to be stopped but he has too much pride. His corner should have saved him, and you can't really judge Bayless stopping the fight, Paquiao was doing all that he could to get Cotto out of there
