    Silva vs Leites.

For those that don't know, Anderson Silva is the P4P king of UFC at the moment.

Look, I actually respect the skills of the best UFC fighters. The majority seem to be tough but not very skilled, but the elite are real technicians and have serious skills and smarts.

However, I think what pisses me off most about MMA in general is the "fast food" nature of it and the lack of respect and general meatheadedness of the fans.

Silva put on a clinic. They saw a shut-out by the best fighter in their sport, and could only boo because there wasn't a 10 second KO.

It's like watching an entire arena full of 12 year olds.

Boxing fans seem more cerebral, more appreciative of skill, and generally more knowledgeable about what it is that they are actually watching. I just couldn't help thinking that a boxing crowd wouldn't have booed a fight like that. They might have booed Leites for being ultra-defensive, but I doubt they would have booed the winner when his name was announced.

Silva is a counter puncher. He's been quite entertaining the past fights. Leites didn't bring them fight to him. He tried but would not throw. Made for a bad fight excitement wise.

Yeah, but Silva was still impressive, no?

    Why boo him?

Yeah, what is really frustrating are intelligent people who believe in MMA's superiority to boxing. Boxers are IMO generally far more skilled and talented than their UFC/MMA counterparts. The striking in UFC is primitive.

Casual fans, they need a KO. Why do think they immediately cheered when he threw on the ground.

I thought his leg kicks to Leites kneel were brilliant and exciting but not to a casual fan who's had a few beers.

Just like Floyd vs Baldomir, impressive but boring.

Floyd put on a clinic but it wasn't entertaining to most. so they boo, happens in every sport.

I actually don't think the striking of Silva was that far behind a lot of pro boxers.

He would hold his own as a pro boxer. Might not be a champion, but he would do well.

MMA striking and Boxing striking are different.

Boxing skill is about the art of striking.

MMA you deal with everything, very hard for a guy to master everything and look good doing it.

Silva is a great great striker but prefers to counter punch.

I like MMA provided that the matchups are good. Just like boxing.

But as it was said here, it is VERY frustrating to watch it with a huge crowd as they don't even appreciate the technical facets of their own favourite sport. Its like everyone wants a brutal ko to happen every time they touch each other.

MMA is still very mainstream, there are a lot of people just looking for an action packed fight. It doesn't surprise me that much, but even the noncasual fans seem pretty lame when it comes to the whole boxing vs MMA thing. MMA guys will fail in boxing, boxers will fail in MMA.. end of story.

Yeah, those leg-kicks were smart. He took the only thing the opponent gave him.

It's not really like Floyd-Baldo because Baldo was really a no-hoper. Leites was a Ju-Jitsu world champ. Even then, Silva did more things that were impressive and out-of-the-ordinary in an attempt to please the crowd than Floyd did against Baldo.

True but Silva didn't have a broken hand.

Im merely saying, too many people want the KO. It's nice but they don't appreciate it.

I hate to burst your bubble but Silva would be a mid-level boxer.

Watch some of SIlva's other fight's where he's beating the living **** out of people like rag dolls, then you will see why his fight last night sucked balls and people boo'd.

What did you think of the Stout vs Wiman fight? That was fight of the night.

people always expect silva to ktfo every opponent he faced. he wasnt able to do that in his last 2 fights. one ended up with a stoppage due to injury and one ended up in a decision. fans were kinda expecting him to run everybody down... but still, silva is a great all around striker.
