I disagree - ok, Leites did not want to stand with Silva, that is understandable, BUT if he wants the fight on the ground he has to take Anderson down, he cannot just dive on the floor and hope Silva just dives down there with him:huh If he cannot take his opponent down then tough ****, he has to fight standing up.:deal
I agree but It seems like Anderson can do whatever he wants but chooses to be too conservative. He doesn't want to put himself in any danger and Thales standup isn't the biggest threat so i'm surprised he wasn't a little more aggressive.
Actually Thales has put quite a few fighters on their backs, from them rushing in on him. There is no need to be overly aggressive. Silva is a counter puncher and people need to realise this.
Silva reminded me of Wladimir Klitchko last night, he was always in control, he was never wrekless because he didn't want to commit because he was winning so easily on points. But i do think Thales was scared and didn't want to get ko'd and that's why the fight was like it was.
There is a difference between a little more aggresive and overly aggressive. And being a counter puncher doesn't mean you have to stand back for 5 rounds and wait 1 judge gave thales 2 rounds If Thales wasn't that far out of it although Silva was in no danger.
Being a counter puncher only thing is a bad excuse. What makes great fighters great is that they can counter or they can press the action if the opportunity is clearly there like it was against Leitas. Rounds 4-5 were absolutely unnecessary... Anderson could have, should have taken him out of there.
This fight was painful to watch. I don't blame the fighters, the blame in my opinion falls on the UFC for paring these two up. Silva is so far beyond Thales, why was this the main event? It's like boxing passing off a tune-up fight as PPV.
because it's a "bad matchup" doesn't excuse guys for not fighting I'm sure Anderson has more serious sparring matches then that fight.
You might be right on the sparring issue but what do you expect Thales to do? His only chance was to take the fight to the ground, and wasn't able to do it; he was completely outclassed. All I'm saying is that the fight didn't deserve main event statis. It was like watching some of Roy Jones' fights where the other guy would get so dominated, he'd shell up.
