How does that make MMA superior.

At the end of the day they are both sports and both are limited, one moreso than the other.

And Crocop walked right into MMA with no grappling experience and beat and competed with the best HW's in MMA.

So please stop with boxers would get beat by any MMA fighter. That is just ******ed logic. If mid-level boxers like Lytle and Davis can waltz into MMA and become top 15 WW's, any good-elite boxer would do the same and most likely better.

They are different sports, but man MMA has a real shitty product with the exception of a few fighters.

And im not sure how claiming Schilt as a K-1 champion is impressive.

Bottom line is Schilt sucks and K-1 IS an absolute joke.

You know its bad when Kharitonov who knows jack crap about ground fighting and yet hes the one pulling off a sub.

Not only that, I really dont see much prospects in the near future that im getting excited about. I think whats happening now is everyone is crosstraining so much athat they have no particular great skill anymore.

I think they see GSP as the prototype but doesnt realize that GSP is just a freak of nature with regards to his wrestling. What you'll have now is a bunch of rich Franklin "Freestyle" fighter types thats are average at everything.

Just look at what happened to Nover, a big prospect. Damn Dana was salivating over this kid lol. The guy is good at this and good at that, He got taken down at will by a 1 dimensional wrestler

Meanwhile Boxings littered with prospects and up and comers like Berto, Solis, Gamboa, Linares, JML, HAye, DAwson, Donaire, heck even Khan is a major attraction. Note that I just named a bunch of solid fighters not even good to crack the top 10 p4p.

Meanwhile MMA, has its top 6 or 7 guys and a huge drop off to mediocrity.

Yep, thats actually a perfect comparison. Rich Franklin is pretty much your prototypical MMA fighter. Hes a guy who really doesnt "wow" me. Hes a solid fighter whos decent at everything but at the end of the day wont be holding any belts anytime soon.

I hate when people say crap like there will be 10 GSPs in each weight division in 10 years. Thats absolutely ridiculous.

GSP is the exception not the norm.

And lets be honest, there probably wont be too many Machidas in the future either.

    I stopped reading there.

Saying one sport is "superior" to another is just moronic.

Success in the sport of boxing is about how well the contestants are at the art of boxing. Success in MMA is all about how well the contestants are at Mixed Martial Arts. Success in tennis is all about how well the contestants are at tennis.

There is no way to measure the overall "superiority" of one sport over another because they are all different.

MMA more closely resembles a "real" fight, but they still have rules, therefore is is still not a real fight. So who cares. I dont watch boxing because I want to see a street fight. I watch it because I appreciate the art of boxing.

If you judge a sport based on how closely they resemble a fight in an alleyway, then maybe you have a point.... but then why not just watch fights in alleyways if that`s your ultimate measuring stick?

    Very good post.

I think Leites/Silva proved that MMA is FAR from REAL fighting. At the end of the day its a sport with alot of rules. Therefore, it cant be considered a REAL fight.

Yep, I dont see how anybody can argue this.

I mean seriously, who are some of the best young MMA'ers right now. Gegard Mousasi? Dustin Hazelett?

I mean give me a break.

I agree with you 100%. However - the cream always rises to the top.I think guys like GSP, Penn, Silva, etc. are the modern MMA prototypes because they are well rounded - but they have a strong base in their core disciplines. These core strengths are what allows them to get the upper hand on the plethora of well rounded - good in everything but great at nothing wave of fighters out there today.

Someone will come along without any fanfare after fighting in the small shows and will start blowing people out. Before GSP was GSP he was just some guy with a good record that upset Karo Parysian. After that - people started to take notice.

There are some hungry young contenders on their way up. Special shout out has to go to Relson's fighter Nissen. He just fought on the undercard of the UFC after fighting on WEC a few months back. ONce he gets properly seasoned - this guy will be a force to be reckoned with. There are others coming along. We just have to wait and see what happens.

One has to keep in mnd two or three things. One is that the event sold out, so these are MMA fans. Two this is the home of GSP who put on a very exciting display when he fought in Montreal and so fans were expecting the same thing. Even more to the point they were hoping that it would be both exciting and potentially set up a fight between Anderson and GSP. Third, everything in life is based on expectations. They expected an exciting fight, theyd didn't get one. Most boxing and UFC fans don't care too much about the fundamentals, they want to be entertained. And for better or worse, when you attend a fight competition, entertained is defined by both fighters trying to knock each other out. When it becomes obvious that one or both fighters haven't entered the ring with that mindset fans quickly become disappointed because they're expectations haven't been met.

90% of the fighters in ufc are largely untrained and unskilled. most of them are really nothing more than tough guys who come to fight and supply the blood and guts the fans want to see. if a real martial artist ever comes along, they are not going to be well recieved by the neaderthals in the audience. the management is well aware of this consequently they encourage street fighting in the cage.

whatever, you guys can get together agree with each other and cheer together all you want, The UFC has been having strong numbers over the last few years and boxing has been riding the coattails of ODL,Jones and other older fighters for ppv numbers. Prospects are just that prospects and the way boxing is run it's hard for guys not named ODL to get popular because they don't get exposure.

boxing does have some good fights coming up but I'll bet any one of you that UFC will easily beat any ppv numbers boxing will have this year.
