Given the Pac-Hatton fight, the return of PBF and the fact that W.K. has sold nearly 50K in tickets so far, I have my doubts that the UFC is going to win on a ppv basis, but we'll see.
Even if UFC does have bigger PPV numbers.... so what? All that proves is that there are more meatheaded jocks in the USA than there are serious, intelligent fans of technical excellence in sports. I already knew that.
MMA is the future of combat sports, period. Not that I think as a sport it's better than boxing, like someone posted earlier you can't make that comparison, it's like saying cricket is better than baseball it's simply opinion. MMA is simply promoted better, they purposely make it appeal to the 'redneck' and 'meatheads' who crave blood, The Ultimate Fighter series proves that! To say that MMA is not technical is a joke, take a BJJ class and then tell me it's not technical! BJJ has to be the most technical sport I've ever laid witness too! One thing that has been said that I do agree with is with the MMA fighters training in 'freestyle fighting'. What I mean by this is I see guys where I train BJJ not training in a particualar martial art but mixing it up from day one with no experiance in anything else. For example Monday is submissions (not to be confused with BJJ) Tuesday is kickboxing, Wednesday is boxing and Thursday is wrestling. These guys have no base, perhaps they call themseles freestyle fighters but I prefer to call them no-style fighters.
This post is stupid on many levels. You do know that Lesnar was responsible for the UFC's 3 biggest PPV's last year right? And Jones is not a big PPV draw. And Cotto sells out MSG by himself and got over 500,000 PPV buys for his fight with Margarito. Cotto is only 28 years old. And there is a world outside of North America. And outside that world, Haye/Klitscko sold out a soccer stadium in a couple of days. Boxing is the KING of combat sports on the International level. And you really think Pacquiao/Hatton wont beat any UFC PPV? Hatton/Mayweather beat any single UFC PPV at the end of 2007. And that featured an unknown British fighter. Not only is Hatton/Pacquiao the biggest International fight this year but i'd be fairly surprised if it didnt draw more PPV's in North America than a UFC card. And if it did thats pathetic on the UFCs part. You just let two foreign fighters outsell you in your biggest market.
listen to yourself, you sound boarderline ******ed Re-read your last line...what the **** is that? Your a troll who comes on the MMA side and for the most part trolls. I will enjoy the Klitshcko-Haye fight and the Hatton-manny fight as well, I like boxing I just get annoyed when trolls post stupid crap about MMA that's all and most are in denial about MMA's succss.
There is still big numbers for PPV for boxing. But let me ask you, how many people know who is on the undercard for this Saturday? How many people actually know who Pacquiao or Hatton is? Boxing is the KING of combat sports on the International level right now, but unless they do something about the way they promote they will quickly decline. UFC is just starting to tap the Euro market and will soon move into Asia. There are only one promotion with many huge name fighters that everybody knows. MMA is still a young sport so you can't compare them to boxing right now not even close. On a side note*** I am really excited for Saturday I see Manny coming out with a Win!!!!!
Yeah there has been a lot of Trolling going on here lately, and it turns out that most of the guy in this forum are boxing fans as well, so I am not quite sure why people that frequent the General boxing forum come over here and start ****. It really shows how uneducated people are about Boxing/MMA.
Thank God for this article, Silva fought a clever fight that night and i was actually impressed with how he inabled his opponent to do anything(thats was actually quite good to watch) **** the fans that boo,if you dont like the whole game of mma and the tactics of mma go ****ing watch another sport. im a huge mma fan and i love all the aspects of it,except for the minority of drunk fans that go to the event for ko's and blood, and then boo when they see grappling. and silva leites fight was just another case of non mma fans booing at the sports very best in action. not the best fight of all time but it should not have been boo'd
I think there is a difference between booing the Silva-Leites fight and booing a fight because it is grappling heavy.
