Juanma put on a good performance against a good fighter, However Gamboa looked like a BEAST!!!! The speed, combo's, and reflexes were absolutely amazing. And it was crazy to see him easily take apart a guy who Juanma had such trouble with. Gamboa Vs. Juanma must be made. This fight just might be a classic. It's hard to pick a winner, before I would say Juanma but Gamboa is WAY better then I thought.
Its vey smart of the promotors to constantly pair them up on the same cards. We all know a match up between these 2 beasts is inevitable!!!
Gamboa is awesome to watch. But, again, bear in mind that he stopped a guy from a lower weight who had been stopped twice before and had double digit losses. He looked great against him like he should have. Lopez stopped a bona fide solid champion with one loss on his record who had never been stopped before, and was a southpaw. Did he look spectacular? No. Should a more than casual fan understand the difficulty level was much higher for him? Yes.
Luevano was tagging Lopes at will. Had Luevano had some more pop Lopes would've been in some serious trouble. With that said, I saw Lopes knees buckle on more than one occasion. Lopes is a brutal ko waiting to happen.
True, but I think in a way thats because they are nobodies. He throws caution (or at least defence) to the wind against these guys and goes all out with his big attack....if he gets knocked down, then its a flash KD and he knows he can get up and finish the job. However, it is a somewhat worrying trend. He would have to tighten up a lot against a powerful, precise counterer ike Juanma. Juanma's stock here btw, seems to have dropped a helluva lot based on one fight. To me he is still favourite here.
No, he goes down because he never brings his hands back up high which leaves him open defensively. Mtagwa simply wasn't fast enough to exploit that flaw. Faster, better fighters will be able to exploit that.
Mtagwa's TKO loss to Salido was due to a rib injury he carried into the fight, that was worsened by a body punch. The only legitimate time he had been stopped was by Perreira, and that was two weeks after the death of his longtime trainer. True enough, there was a significant difference in size between the two. But I still think the way Gamboa was able to blow out a fully prepared and almost always durable Mtagwa was impressive.
i think they are the 2 best in that division. i hope they get paid good should they fight eachother but as neither are on the PPV level i guess the reallity is they wont get paid to there fighting worth. 1 should fight rafael marquez, the other israel vasquez, after they beaten them & become more household known they clash each other. (LIFES NOT THAT SIMPLE THO :-().
A fight between gamboa and juanma is on PPV guarantee. You dont have to be a household name to be on PPV you just need a big fan base and juanma will sell a half a million houses on PR alone. I dont know about Gamboa cuban following but his name and ability will help raise that to a least 3quartes of a million sells easily.
keep in mind, when lopez fought mtagwa, they both weighed in at 122 (junior featherweight limit). When gamboa fought mtagwa, gamboa weighed in at the featherweight limit of 126, while mtagwa came in at 122 still. (those 4 lbs make a difference) In addition, lopez was struggling to make 122 at that point. One thing that lopez proved in that fight (vs mtagwa) was that he can take a punch (you can also argue he gets hit too much), but gamboa didn't get hit at all by mtagwa, so folks didn't get to see his suspect chin. I think if lopez/gamboa fight sometime this year, lopez will win by KO.
Gamboa did what he was expected to do nothing spectacular. Gamboa has not stepped up in class like Lopez who has KO'd champs at multiple weights and has fought guys who were thought to be better than him like Ponce De Leon. Gamboa has never taken a risk or fought a guy a level above. Gamboa is fast and can hit we knew that but can he win at a high level Mtgawa was a double digit loser with no big wins and lost to a guy at a lower class in his career best performance. Gamboa SHOULD have KO'd him. Gamboa to me is still a grey area cause he has not tested himself. Juannma to me is also a question mark. Like a previous poster said he was hit easy by Luevano and had Luevano had more pop he'd a been in trouble. I said of Juanma after the Penalosa fight he dominated and won all the rounds but he got hit by many right hooks flush and had Penalosa been at the weight not moving up and had real KO power he could have gotten him outta there. Both have gaping holes in their defense. They are all offense fighters who can each KO eachother when they fight.
