Sam does know to FINISH a fight! He was very fast with his punches for a "plodding, no-talent HW". He put on a great display of how to finish the job and Oleg was completely out on his feet. If those ropes weren't there, he would have taken a nasty spill. Here's hoping Sam trains hardsr and gets in better shape for the rematch against Wlad next. If he does, he's got a legit shot. If not, he'll probably get stopped for the first time in his career.
:yep It was pretty impressive how Sam kept cool in the 6th and picked his spots patiently, yet friggin violently to close the show.
He still needs to work on his range judgement, that right is so looping that he can be a lot more effective with it. But yes, for the finishing series he was landing right on the chin and jaw. That left hook-right hand in particular really landed flush.
Amusing in that Kelly Pavlik went from a virtual unknown to having his name used as an adjective in a single year.
Peter is a plodder with his feet. His hand speed is fine though. Fans who think Peter is going to Ko top fighters early are mistaken. Peter is still the same person. He hits behind the head, does not go to the body, and is average on defense. While he had Maskaev in a bad way, what if the ref lets it go a few more seconds, and the round ends. How much would Peter have left? I watched the fight for the first time 30 minutes ago. Peter's corner seem to be concerned about Peter gassing out. They keep telling him to breathe deeply, and let him know when he has 30 seconds left on his stool. All this vs a slow and old Maskeav? Vitlai Klitschko is going to make Same Peter look like Danny Williams.
We will never see a Vlad-Peter rematch. Don King will protect Peter by keeping him away from Vlad permanently.
I was impressed with his composure as he finished the fight. Reminded me of how Oscar De La Hoya finishes. He wasn't putting everything into every shot.. he was just making sure that his punches kept landing. Very impressed with that.
I think Peter needs to work at how he goes about attacking a figher he has just hurt...... I noticed in that early round where he hurt Maskaev that he rushed in throwing aimless shots....alot of them aimless armshots without alot of aim or mustard on them.....he promptly got tagged by a well placed Maskaev counter. When Peter hurt Maskaev in the 6th, I think he remembered he had gassed in the early scenario, and went about it more calmly and placed his shots with alot more precision and leverage that put an end to the proceedings. .....but absolutely, Peter has to work at exersizing his ability to recuperate promptly after putting in a sprint like effort in a round. No doubt he has to work on his cardio conditioning and wind!
I wasn't overly impressed with peter in the fight. He hasn't looked good since the second Toney fight (and he lost the first fight every time I watch it)
