just watched this fight again and to me appears that darchinyan is no more than a glorified version of ricardo mayorga where was boxing skill, a dumb slugger if i ever saw one. Thoughts!
The thing with vic is, for him to be effective his opponent needs to be afraid of his power... Kong ate his power shots like a fat kid eats a big mac.... no problem and asking for more. If vic cant hurt you, hes pretty much usless :yep
It appeared so in this fight, but Darchinyan had boxed fairly well between his loss to Donaire and the fight with Agbeko. By no means textbook but he was thinking about his boxing more. Everything seemed to go out of the window in this fight, sometimes he gets into a seek and destroy mode and won't change. Credit to Agbeko for making him do that.
Vic is vastly over rated, and it was based on beating two of the top 5 most overrated fighters of the past 15 to 20 years in Mijares and Arce.
The thing with Vic is, if you can take his power shots and you can pop him enough with your own then his chances of outboxing you are not that great. Of course, you still do have to be able to take his shots or avoid most of them. Something that Mijares and Arce were clearly unable to do (the latter being unable to outbox Darchinyan to compound the matter).
