    I made a few observations.

1: For me, my personal scorecard was 3-3. Vitali wins 1,2,4. Lennox wins 3 as he started landing jabs and right hands, 5 and 6 as he started to land uppercuts now and Vitali was very inactive.
2: Lewis was fat and out of shape and Vitali was fighting for dear life.
3: The cut would have gotten worse, but even without the cut (as Lennox wasn't really aiming for the cut) ,he was gassing out while Lennox seemed to save energy.

And personally. I feel like Vitali deserved to lose on the cut. Because in the 2nd round, Lewis is on You-know-what-Street and can't tell his head from his a and instead of finishing him off like Vitali should have as Lennox arms are down unable to protect himself, he just looks at him.

You forgot about one thing: Lewis was exhauated after these 6 rounds.

But I agree. I also scored it 3-3 and the stoppage was more than legit. Lewis won fair and square. Beaten Vitali to a pulp.

I disagree partially with regards to the rematch tho. Lewis did it all by that time and didn't need to prove anything. He had a right to retire and did it exactly when was needed. Not a lot of boxers are able to walk away like that. But Vitali deserved the rematch in the eyes of the public. Lewis knew it. Emanuel knew it. But Lewis' wife threatened to leave him if he boxes again. He chose wife, as he should at that point of his career.

The real tragedy is how many fighters with no hope of ever reaching world level lose their marriages to this sport…

When’s the last time we had a TKO6 thread?

Vitali wasn't gassing out at all. It was Lewis who looked like he was going to have a heart attack.

Vitali was getting pounded because he couldn't see out of his wrecked eye. Prior to that he'd been giving Lewis a shellacking.

A rematch was completely in order, especially in light of the current pointless series of fights that we are subjected to the outcome of which is a foregone conclusion. Can't wait to see Fury / Chisora 5 "Riot at the Retirement Village".

Emanuel Steward said it in his interview with @Rumsfeld I think.

There was a lot of furore about it at the time, calls for a rematch. I get it, as it was a very exciting fight. But it was a fair result and a fair stoppage.
As a Lewis fan I was pleased (then and now) that he didn't take the rematch. He'd had a long career, finally got the respect he deserved and was risking it all again by fighting on. Kudos to him, I feel, for recognising the warning signs that he was getting too old for it all. Not may do - and better to retire a fight too early than a fight too late.
And maybe, just maybe, the result worked out best for everyone? IF they'd rematched and Vital lost (which was still a real possibility) then his standing as 'the next generation ' would have been under an inescapable shadow. At least both could 'move forward ' with their reputations in tact

Both Lewis’ retirement & a rematch were fair options to play out. I tell you what though, Klitschko is the luckiest SOB who ever lived. The mileage he’s gotten out of that fight - & the fact Lewis retired rather than face him again - makes Ruddock’s reputation from the Tyson losses blush.

In shape & adequately ready, Lewis cuts the other half of his face off. Lewis’ biggest weakness (he had other, smaller ones) was his fairly fragile whiskers, but Klitschko was a robotic arm puncher without a killer blow (& if anyone wants to rush me with his KO percentage, I have an uppercut of context loaded for you).

Not even intact. Massively inflated, as time would prove in Klitschko’s case.

Lennox wife & Mother , are both named Violet, were pressing Lennox to retire but there was no threatening to leave him if he didn't. Lennox chose exactly the right time to call it a day,he'd TKO'd Vitali , Wlad went AWOL lol Ike was pre occupied where was the incentiveto carry on. If I'd have accepted all the bets I was offered , that Lennox would come back. I'd have been a rich man back then. Lennox is a Happily Married husband & father. Contented in his retirement , that he fully deserves. THANK YOU for the Memories Champ BLESS!!

Pointless thread. This is a settled issue. In fact, no issue at all.

As sluggish and out of shape as he was,Lennox was definitely coming into the fight by the time of stoppage.
If there had been a rematch within six months or so afterwards,a motivated Lewis would have won by decision, unless Klitschko got cut badly again,in my opinion. Anymore than a year down the line, though, then Vitali wins.
